For travelers interested in ancient history and cycling, Pasjak offers a clear focus. Above the village, Gradina preserves the remains of a Roman fortification; the Antičke utvrde MTB route leads to this fortress. Archaeological traces and a named cycling route thus come together at a specific location.
Cycling to Antičke utvrde
The route leads from Veli Brgud to the 3rd-century fortress near Pasjak, then continues to Brdce. Along the way, there are views toward the Kvarner Gulf and Velebit. The route concept is permanent, but organized departures and arrangements may vary. If you are planning an organized departure, check the date and arrangements in advance to make sure they fit your travel dates.
Gradina above Pasjak
The remains of a Roman fortification at Gradina stand beside the former Tarsatica–Tergeste road. Preserved features include around 200 meters of conserved walls, two entrance towers, and a visible stone threshold. The fortress was in use around 270 AD. Its historical setting can therefore be understood both through its structures and in the context of the road. Before visiting, check the access conditions, as they may change.

Pasjak in the historical context of the Liburnian Karst
The Memorijalni centar Lipa pamti in the wider destination of Općina Matulji offers another historical perspective. The center opened in April 2015 at the site of an older memorial museum that operated in Lipa from 1968 to 1989. Its exhibition interprets the history of the Second World War in the Liburnian Karst. In addition to Lipa, this region includes Pasjak, Rupa, Šapjane, and Brdce. Pasjak is thus mentioned not only in connection with the Roman traces at Gradina, but also in a regional historical context.
