The Municipality of Drenje can be explored through two distinct themes: wine culture around Drenje and Lake Borovik, with its trails and shore areas. There are also other places by the water and a cultural landmark in the town. You can shape your explorations according to whether you are interested in winegrowing, outdoor activities or landscapes.
Winegrowing and cultural heritage in Drenje
More than 60 small and medium-sized family businesses are involved in winegrowing in Drenje; this number may change over time. The wine routes lead to family businesses that produce and sell wine. Visitors can sample different varieties there. The combination of winegrowing, sales and the opportunity to taste wine makes these routes a practical way to discover local wine production.
The parish church of St Michael in Drenje is a cultural landmark. This named building stands alongside the wine routes and reveals another side of the town: here, the focus is on religious heritage rather than production and tasting. The church and the family businesses therefore offer different starting points for exploring Drenje.
Borovik: lake, shore and trails
Lake Borovik is an artificial lake west of Drenje. The area around the lake and Borovik Forest is used for camping, walking and relaxing along the lakeshore. If you plan to camp there, check the local rules. The different activities give the area a distinct character, ranging from walks to spending time by the water.
There is a 400 m² wooden promenade at Lake Borovik. A beach about 260 m long was built below the existing Camp Borovik restaurant. Check the current condition of these lakeside facilities on site. A pontoon basin was also completed as part of visitor infrastructure works; check whether it is currently operating before your visit.
Specific distances are also provided for tours. The section of the Slavonski planinarski put from Vučje Glave to Borovik is 8 km long, takes about two hours and has an elevation difference of 80 m. There is also a 32 km mountain biking trail by the lake. For planning purposes, this gives you a roughly two-hour walking route with a stated elevation difference and a much longer cycling route as distinct options.
The Đakovo mountaineering club holds a triathlon at Borovik every year in mid-July. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the date for the year in question in advance. This gives you a specific seasonal reference point, without requiring you to plan a visit around an event.
Other places by the water
Lake Koritnjak in Bučje Gorjansko is used for sports and recreation. Kosinac offers a different landscape: this natural lake is 200 m from the town of Drenje and is surrounded by unspoilt nature and abundant greenery. Kosinac is considered an oasis of recreation and relaxation. The two lakes therefore offer different experiences: Koritnjak for sports and recreation, and Kosinac for a green setting and tranquillity.
