Discover the Municipality of Kneževi Vinogradi through cycling routes, nature and history. Along the municipality’s eastern border, the area extends to the left bank of the Danube; part of Kopački rit Nature Park lies within the municipality. The towns also offer points of interest of their own, from historical heritage to wine and regional cuisine.
Cycling routes with different points of interest
Karanac lies on the Panonski put mira, a cycling route that connects Slavonia, Baranja and Vojvodina. The Karanac–Kneževi Vinogradi–Kamenac–Karanac route is 11.65 kilometres long. Another option is the Belje Vineyard Cycling Route, which runs through the vineyards of Baranja and includes the Vina Belje viewpoint. This gives you the choice of a precisely measured route and one featuring vineyards and a viewpoint; the Panonski put mira connects the towns as part of a wider regional route. Before cycling, check the current conditions on the Panonski put mira and the safety of the 11.65-kilometre route. The difficulty and surface on the Belje route may vary.
Nature park and getting there
The access route to Kopački rit Nature Park from the Batina–Bezdan border crossing passes through Batina, Kneževi Vinogradi, Bilje and Kopačevo. The park cannot be reached by public transport; visitors must use a private car or organised transport. Check travel conditions before setting out. This lets you include the route through the towns listed in your plans without assuming there is a public transport connection.
A look at Osijek-Baranja County
Osijek-Baranja County also offers a wider natural setting: Kopački rit Nature Park is home to more than 2,300 species, including around 140 breeding bird species. The park’s tourist activities include boat trips, canoeing with an expert guide and cycling tours. These nature and activity offerings are available at the nature park in Osijek-Baranja County.
Sports and water activities
The Sports and Recreation Centre in Kneževi Vinogradi has an Olympic-size pool measuring 25 by 50 metres. The facilities also include sports areas for basketball, handball and football, as well as outdoor street-workout equipment. Canoes for rowing on the pond and zorbing balls for walking on water are also among the leisure activities mentioned there; availability may vary by season. Before visiting, check the pool’s seasonal opening times and the operator’s latest information.
Local history, culture and wine
Kneževi Vinogradi was the site of a Roman colony called Donatium. In 2015, Karanac was awarded the title of best rural destination in continental tourism. Both historical references add a sense of time to today’s routes, without suggesting that the award is a current ranking.
The Baranyai Julia Local Museum in Zmajevac presents the region’s shared Croatian-Hungarian cultural heritage and its long history. Group visits must be announced in advance; confirm contact details before your arrival. Knežev dol is a tasting room and excursion destination offering local wine and gastronomic specialities. As access arrangements may change seasonally, check visiting options in advance.
Stay overnight in Stara Baranja
Stara Baranja offers overnight stays in a new house and an old, traditional Pannonian house dating from 1904. Accommodation options include breakfast, half board and full board.
