Općina Rešetari reveals itself through several historical and cultural traces. Churches and archaeological sites lead into different eras; cultural events bring together dance, songs and gatherings. The landscape around Rešetari and local connections to wine add to this. Depending on whether you are interested in architectural history, culture or regional traditions, different themes come to the fore.

Churches and archaeological traces

The parish church of Christ the King in Rešetari was built in 1968. In Zapolje, the old Church of St Nicholas is considered the surviving building that recalls the Middle Ages. It is dated to the 13th to 15th centuries; its mention in 1660 and restoration in 1730 are later historical reference points. An old Catholic church dedicated to St John in Rešetari was mentioned in 1660.

The archaeological sites also represent different periods: the Gradina site in Adžamovci contains finds from the Middle Ages; Puharina near Zapolje is a registered archaeological site dating from Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Traditional buildings form part of the architectural heritage in Rešetari, Bukovica, Drežnik, Gunjavci, Brđani, Adžamovci and Zapolje. Four cultural properties are registered in the municipality, including three protected tangible cultural properties.

Cultural traditions and events

Kolo na Medanu preserves the protected Drežnik šetano kolo, a traditional dance of Posavina. The fourth children's edition of Kolo na Medanu, held on 3 May 2025, featured children's games, Slavonian dances and songs. Since 1988, Rešetarački pleter has been held as a gathering of Croatian minority cultural associations from European countries. Rešetarski susreti pjesnika has been held since 2002. Together, these events offer insight into different forms of cultural tradition—from dance to gatherings of associations.

Landscape and getting around

Rešetari lies at the foot of a mountain; its settlement pattern is not entirely linear. A historical map shows the village along the Rešetarica watercourse, between the hills of Versela and Čerkenjca, in the direction of Gostinac. This adds a spatial perspective on Rešetari to the view of its buildings and archaeological sites.

The state roads DC 313 and DC 316 connect Nova Gradiška with Rešetari. A documented cycling event went from Rešetari to Bukovica and back. These details offer different points of reference: the state roads indicate the connection with Nova Gradiška, while the event route describes a specific journey to Bukovica and back.

Chestnuts and wine

A 2021 report describes Kestenijada as a recurring local tradition featuring roasted chestnuts and the preparation of mulled wine. An article dated 16 January 2016 names OPG Kraljić in Rešetari as a wine producer and reports on a small wine academy in the business's tasting room. OOG Vino Ozren Kraljić is also associated with an address in Rešetari. These connections to wine add further local discoveries to the cultural and historical themes.
