Three different perspectives can help you choose a stay in Laiwu: memorial culture, seasonal park scenery and geology. The Laiwu Battle Memorial and several green spaces in Laiwu District represent memorial culture and park themes; Woyunpu Peak is located in Chayekou Town. There are also landscape and air sports themes. You can therefore plan your stay around historical interests, autumn colors or natural formations.
Memorial Culture in Laiwu
The Laiwu Battle Memorial in Laiwu District was renamed in 1994; it was previously called the Laiwu Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery. Four main buildings define the site: the Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial Tower, the Laiwu Battle Exhibition Hall with Panorama Hall, the Lu Zhong Anti-Japanese War Exhibition Hall, and the Martyrs’ Memorial Hall. Their names mark distinct historical perspectives: the Battle of Laiwu, resistance against Japan in Lu Zhong, and remembrance of martyrs. For travelers with a historical focus, the memorial thus combines a named place of remembrance with several clearly distinct exhibition areas. Also in Laiwu District, the former site of the Shandong Provincial Committee is listed as an AAA tourist attraction.
Park Scenery and Autumn
Red Stone Park is a comprehensive park west of the Laiwu District government. The annual period for viewing red leaves falls between late October and early November. If you are planning your stay around autumn colors, this timeframe provides a concrete planning reference. Recreation, fitness and flower viewing are also part of the park’s profile. The seasonal natural highlight therefore sits alongside broader activities such as exercise and flower viewing.
Other green spaces in Laiwu District offer different combinations of activities: Lianhe Park, Shengli Park and Laiwu Riverside Park are each associated with recreation and exercise. Laiwu Botanical Garden also offers nature education and flower viewing, in addition to recreation and exercise. On a designated lawn in Xiaoyi River Park, camping, recreation and fitness go together; the same activities are associated with a lawn at Laiwu District Culture Center. Nature education and flowers on the one hand, and camping on the other, give these green spaces their own distinct focuses.
Recreation and Aviation at Snowye Scenic Area
In December 2000, the Shandong Provincial Government approved Snowye Scenic Area and designated it a provincial scenic area. It combines nature-oriented ecological recreation, health-focused leisure and distinctive recreational sports. As the permanent venue for the China International Aviation Sports Festival, it is also connected with air sports. The area is considered a place where the public can learn about aviation and experience the appeal of flying. Nature recreation and aviation come together here under a shared theme.
Mountain Views and Geological Formations
Xiangshan is 918.7 meters high and is the tallest mountain in Laiwu District. From the summit of Woyunpu in Chayekou Town, you can see the winding remains of the Qichang Wall, as well as terraces dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The natural features differ: Xiangshan’s height places it in context within Laiwu District, while Woyunpu combines summit views with wall remains and historic terraces.
Jiulong Grand Canyon Geopark focuses on geological relics, including stratigraphic profiles and geomorphological formations. These features are of interest both for scientific study and for landscape viewing. If you are interested in geological formations themselves, this offers a different focus from mountain views or seasonal park scenery.
