Nanda Jie: Old Town and Night Market
Nanda Jie is a 650-meter-long historic commercial street and forms the main thoroughfare of Jincheng’s old town. In 2024, it was recognized as a “provincial cultural and tourism district for the night-time economy” and a “provincial tourist leisure district,” and was developed into a cultural and tourism street. Thus, the street’s historic commercial role and its development for tourism exist side by side. A 2023 description mentions a night market on Nanda Jie, where visitors can sample night-market dishes. The street therefore offers two perspectives on the old town: its commercial thoroughfare and a culinary highlight.
Jincheng Museum in Chengqu
Jincheng Museum is located in Chengqu District, at the northwest corner of the intersection of Fengtai East Street and Wenbo Road. An official notice from 2023 listed Tuesday through Sunday as opening days and Monday as the closing day; it gave visiting hours of 09:00 to 17:00, with admission until 16:00. It also required an online reservation under the visitor’s real name via the WeChat account “风雅晋城” and that visitors bring an identity document. Forest Park, Temple and Jinggong Tower
Bai Ma Temple Mountain Forest Park is in Chengqu District, four kilometers north of Jincheng’s urban area. A figure from 2007 put forest cover at more than 80 percent. Its main attractions include Bai Ma Tuojiang, Bai Ma Chan Temple, Jinggong Tower, stone Buddha statues and Black Dragon Pool. Jinggong Tower stands on the summit of Bai Ma Temple Mountain. Built entirely of gray bricks, it has seven stories and stands 23 meters tall. Together, the forest park, temple and tower give this itinerary a different character from the old town’s commercial and market history: here, landscapes and named cultural attractions go hand in hand.
Longma Lake in northern Chengqu
Longma Lake is in the Bai Ma Temple Mountain recreation area, in the northern suburban part of Chengqu District. It is a major ecological landscape project. If you would like to give landscapes greater emphasis than the old town when planning your trip, Longma Lake is another named point of reference for this focus.
Jingde Bridge and History
Another way to explore the area’s historic heritage is to visit Jingde Bridge in Jingde Park, which lies within the broader area of Jincheng’s old-town renewal project. The historic heritage bridge dates from 1189, the 29th year of the Dading era of the Jin dynasty. It connects the surrounding natural landscape with history. Alongside Nanda Jie as a historic commercial thoroughfare, this single structure stands out, dating back to the 12th century. The bridge is a specific point of interest for travelers interested in historic architecture and its connection to the surrounding landscape.
