Loudi has many different sides: Loudi Old Street brings together almost a thousand years of old-town history, Xiannvzhai Ecological Park lies in the eastern part of the city, and other spots offer cherry blossoms, a walking path to the Sunshui River, and urban leisure and shopping. Nearby, a natural limestone cave adds another theme to explore. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between these highlights: they range from architectural history to seasonal nature and offer different ways to get to know Loudi.
Loudi’s History on Old Street
Loudi Old Street runs from Guanhuamen to Wangxiangmen and is about 1,000 meters long. Along this stretch, almost a thousand years of Loudi’s old-town history come together. The named endpoints and approximate length give the historic street a concrete geographical framework; at the same time, its history spans far more than that of any single building.
At the heart of Old Street stands the General's Temple. It was built in the seventh year of the Qing dynasty’s Xianfeng era and rebuilt in 1990. These two dates mark different phases: the original construction and the rebuilding. This connects the street’s history to a named building and a specific chronology, without reducing the old town’s long development to a single point in time.
Parkland and Geological Surroundings
Xiannvzhai Ecological Park lies in the eastern part of Loudi and covers about 9.34 square kilometers. It is known as the green lung of Loudi. The park is also home to Tianlai Temple and Xuanzhen Temple. While Old Street is characterized by its historic route and history, the park is defined by its approximate size, its role as a green space, and its two named temples.
Nearby, Shengyan Cave is located in the Xiannvzhai Ecological Tourism Area. Shengyan Cave is a natural limestone cave, adding a geological perspective to the cultural, historical and urban themes. It is in the area around Loudi; the park and the cave are distinct places with different names.
Cherry Blossoms and a Riverside Walk
The southeast corner of Louxing Square is a free spot for viewing cherry blossoms. This is a seasonal highlight: the blossoms appear in spring, but the timing varies from year to year. So if you want to plan your stay around the cherry blossoms, don’t count on a fixed date.
A walking path in central Loudi leads directly to the Sunshui River; the surrounding streets are lined with trees. Since route conditions can change, check the current route before setting out. Unlike the old town’s history, the focus here is the walk to the river and its tree-lined surroundings.
Urban Leisure
A description published on December 13, 2024, locates Louying Commercial Street in central Loudi, at 32 Dixing Road. It lists dining, leisure and entertainment, fashion retail, and photo spots as its main attractions. This adds a commercial side of city life to the historical and scenic themes. The street offers a different focus from Loudi Old Street: here, it is about dining, entertainment, shopping and photo opportunities, while Old Street is about the old town’s long history.
