Yiyang can be planned from two perspectives: the central urban area offers clear bearings around Heshan Street, while historical sites, cultural heritage, and themed attractions are located partly in the wider region.
Urban Area and Getting Your Bearings
Heshan Street is in the central urban area of Yiyang and serves as the political, economic, cultural, and transport center of Heshan District. Its boundaries also help you get your bearings: to the east, it borders the Changsha–Yiyang Expressway and National Highway 319; to the west, Longzhou Street; to the north, the Zijiang River; and to the south, the Yiyang High-Tech Zone. Check the street names again before setting off. The Lanxi River flows through Heshan Street; it is 18 kilometers long and classified as a Class I protected waterway. The street's major wholesale markets include Yincheng Market and the Tea Market. The specific range of merchants may change.
Historical Sites and Archaeological Heritage
In Yiyang's urban area, Bailu Temple is located on Bailu Mountain on the south bank of the Zijiang River, next to Huilong Mountain. It was founded during the Yuanhe era under Emperor Xianzong of the Tang Dynasty and is about 1,200 years old. Another historical site is the ancient Yangwuling kiln site in the wider Longguangqiao and Cangshuipu area. It covers ten square kilometers, and its kilns were built on mountain slopes. In 2013, the site was included in China's seventh group of nationally protected major cultural heritage sites. Also associated with 2013 are the ruins of Yiyang's former county seat on Rabbit Mountain: they were named one of China's ten most important archaeological discoveries of that year.
Tea Craft and Attractions in the Wider Region
The culture of the wider Heshan area includes the handmade production of Yiyang Fuzhuan tea, which is recognized as national intangible cultural heritage. This craft adds a living regional tradition to the historical sites. It is a distinct cultural focus alongside the archaeological sites and relics from the Tang era.
The Yiyang Modern Agriculture Demonstration Park offers another perspective on the surrounding area. This national AAA-rated tourist attraction is located in Biyunfeng Village, Cangshuipu Township, Heshan District, Yiyang. The park comprises a general services area, a themed exhibition hall area, a leisure and harvest area, vegetable-growing plots, and a flower field area. Seasonal offerings may vary; check current access information and the activities that interest you before visiting.
Choose Accommodation Based on Your Priorities
When choosing a hotel, it helps to first decide what you want to focus on. If you are primarily interested in urban Yiyang, Heshan Street offers a point of reference in the central urban area. This lets you tailor your search to the places that actually matter for your stay.
