Culture and nature come together in different ways across Yunfu: Lingnan architecture, Yunfu stone art and historic buildings meet karst caves, mountain views and hiking trails. To plan your visit, start by deciding what matters most: are you primarily interested in architectural and urban history, or would you rather focus on landscapes and hiking? The places below offer distinct starting points for either kind of visit.
Cultural History and Architecture
Yuncheng East-West Street is a historic cultural district in Guangdong Province, known for its Lingnan-style arcades. In 2025, it was added to Guangdong’s provincial list of distinctive pedestrian streets and commercial districts. The street can therefore be understood both through its architecture and through a clearly dated recognition.
The Yunfu Museum adds perspectives on urban planning, stone art and history. The first floor houses an exhibition hall on Yunfu’s urban planning and the “One Stone, One World” exhibition on Yunfu stone art. The second floor features an exhibition on Yunfu’s history and culture. A visit to the museum thus takes you from a focused look at urban planning and stone art to a broader historical and cultural context.
Shuidong Village, on the banks of the Xinxing River, brings a different scale to this cultural focus. The village is designated a Chinese historic and cultural village as well as the “First Village of the Lingnan Neo-Confucian School.” It contains 588 historic buildings from the Ming and Qing periods. The difference from Yuncheng East-West Street lies in the scale: here, an entire village and its historic buildings take center stage; there, the arcades of a cultural district. The dates refer to different things: Ming and Qing identify the periods of the historic buildings, while 2025 is the year the street was added to the provincial list.
Landscapes, Caves and Hiking Trails
Dajin Mountain Scenic Area is a landmark of Yunfu. From the summit, you can take in views of the city; the area is suited to nature watching and hiking. For a more leisurely walk, another option is the gently graded, convenient circular trail on the mountain in Nanshan Forest Park. The focus differs: Dajin combines summit views, nature watching and hiking, while the Nanshan loop emphasizes a leisurely walk along its gentle route.
Panlong Cave adds a geological perspective to the mountain and trail themes. A secondary karst cave within Yunfu’s urban area, it formed gradually over more than 170 million years. The 528-meter visitor route is divided into three sections: Tiantong Cave above, the underground Longquan River below, and the Wanlong Corridor in the middle. This natural attraction stands apart from viewpoints and hiking trails thanks to its cave formations and named sections.
