Lago Verde lies in a rural valley of the Río Figueroa. The landscape around the town brings together forests, Lago Verde, the Patagonian steppe, rivers and the mountain ranges of the Sierra and Diablillo Negro. The town’s microclimate is attributed to nearby Lago Verde. As a result, lake and river activities are as much in focus in Lago Verde as hiking and longer routes.

Hiking and multi-day routes

The Sendero La Cancha starts at the northern edge of Lago Verde and follows the historic northern trail. Along the way, it offers views of the vegetation and a panorama of Lago Verde. The trail is considered suitable for everyone; it is listed as approximately five kilometers long, taking around four hours, with a low difficulty level. Distance, duration and difficulty may vary depending on conditions.

The Andes Patagónicos route, Lago Verde–Lago Palena, starts in the town of Lago Verde and ends at Lago Palena. It is also called Huella los Troperos and is a Ruta Patrimonial in the Región Aysén. At approximately 55 km, taking around three days one way, with a medium to high difficulty level, it differs significantly from Sendero La Cancha. These route details may also vary depending on conditions.

A 70 km Troperos route connecting Lago Verde with Villa La Tapera is a separate route. It can be completed on foot or on horseback in three to five days. The destinations help you choose: the Andes PatagĂłnicos route ends at Lago Palena, while the 70 km route leads to Villa La Tapera. Check seasonal conditions before setting out; for the Troperos route, you should also check local access conditions.

Lake, rivers and wildlife watching

Kayaking and boat trips are possible on Lago Verde. A half-day boat trip goes from Lago Verde to the La Herradura sector on Lago Verde, where you can go ashore and enjoy the beach. The stop ashore offers a specific complement to activities on the water. Local operating conditions may vary; check in advance if you are planning your trip around the excursion.

At turquoise Lago Verde, you can fish from the shore; suitable fishing areas are also available along the Figueroa and Pico rivers. Check permits and local conditions before fishing. Wildlife watching is also among the activities in Lago Verde; availability may change.

Sightseeing and accommodation planning

The town’s attractions include Plaza Lago Verde and Monumento los Pioneros. When choosing a hotel in Lago Verde, it helps to first decide how you want to spend your time: on individual excursions and activities on the lake, or on a multi-day route. This way, you can plan your accommodation around the length of your trip.
