A map from 2019 lists El Remanso among the attractions around Coyhaique. This provides a point of reference for choosing a location, with a clear time context.

Places and waterscapes

Villa Lago Atravesado is a village surrounded by mountains, near Laguna Cea and Lago Atravesado. The village has grocery stores, a restaurant, and a rural health station. If you are relying on the shops or restaurant, check their current opening hours in advance. Lago Atravesado is of glacial origin, surrounded by mountains, and offers opportunities for recreational fishing. The lake thus combines a distinctive landscape with a specific named activity.

At Cascada del Lago Atravesado, there are two benches beside the road; the small Nuestra Señora de los Andes shrine is also located there. The waterfall carries more water in spring. This seasonal change complements the lasting points of reference provided by the benches and shrine, without implying a specific visiting schedule.

In the wider region, the shoreline of Laguna Cea is used as a swimming area. People also fish there from boats, and triathletes train by swimming. Swimming, fishing, and swim training are distinct uses of the same lagoon; they give you a more specific sense of the activities described in this region.

Six lagoons and regional nature destinations

The six-lagoon tourist route includes Laguna Burgos, Laguna Mercedes, Laguna Blanca, Laguna Espejo, Laguna Barroso, and Laguna Las Maletas. The route is described as particularly scenic and suitable for photography. The six names refer to individual lagoons along this tourist route; the scenic and photographic qualities apply to the route as a whole.

The broader destination: the Aisén Region

The Carretera Austral is the main transport route through the Región Aysén and is more than 1,200 kilometers long. It passes through native forests, by glaciers and crystal-clear rivers, and through rugged fjords. Road conditions can vary. Parque Nacional Queulat is directly accessible via the Carretera Austral, Ruta 7, which crosses a large part of the park. The Queulat hanging glacier, also called Colgante, hangs between two mountains and forms an icefall into the lagoon of the same name. Check road conditions before setting out.

Parque Nacional Laguna San Rafael in the Región Aysén offers a different glacial landscape. It is known for the glacier and Laguna San Rafael, where large blocks of ice break off the glacier and fall into the water. In 1979, UNESCO declared the park a biosphere reserve. Possible activities include boating, fishing, excursions, observing flora and fauna, photography, and mountaineering. Access and activity options can vary by sector and season.

Extended hikes and nature observation are the focus of Parque Nacional Cerro Castillo. The park features mountain formations, lagoons, water-rich rivers, dense native forests, and diverse Patagonian wildlife. It is also an important habitat for the huemul (Hippocamelus bisulcus). Seasonal closures and guide requirements may change. The Ruta de los Valles offers another hiking reference: a network of natural trails in the northeastern part of the Región Aysén, near La Junta. It passes through glacial valleys with lakes, rivers, waterfalls, evergreen forests, and native wildlife; local conditions and access may vary.
