At the heart of Baie-des-Chaleurs, Caplan has three municipal beaches. At Plage du Village, you can stroll by the sea and watch the sunsets. The equipped Plage de la Rivière is three kilometres west of the village and can be reached via a path along Route 132. Along with the coastal cycling trail, nature trail and fishing harbour, there are other options beyond beach days: outdoor activities or a glimpse into Caplan’s maritime history.
Beaches and Coastal Views
Plage du Village is ideal for seaside strolls and watching the sunsets; you can also look for small agates there. A rustic beach in Caplan offers a different view of the coast: from there, the panorama extends across the bay, the barachois, the former fishing harbour and Caplan’s distinctive cliffs. You can plan your beach visit around specific experiences—from a walk along the shore to views of the coastal landscape.
Cycling Trail, Nature Trail and Paddling
The Caplan cycling trail runs along Baie-des-Chaleurs. It is suitable for leisurely rides, more strenuous outings or family rides. This lets you plan your cycling trip to suit your preferred riding style, without requiring a particular pace.
The Sentier de la halte routière is accessible year-round and is suitable for walking and running. Along the way, you can discover local flora and fauna; artworks line the trail at the western edge of the village. If you would rather explore on foot than by bike, this is another way to experience Caplan’s nature and art.
Along the coast, you can explore Caplan’s red cliffs from the water by kayak or stand-up paddleboard. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are rented at the historic La Neigière building, at the site of Caplan’s equipped beach. Rentals are seasonal; check before your trip to see whether they are available during your dates. When planning, note that this differs from the Sentier de la halte routière, which is accessible year-round: the activities have different availability.
Maritime History and Music
At the Ruisseau Leblanc fishing harbour, you can connect with Caplan’s maritime history. The Mercredi-Marigot music series was scheduled to take place at Plage de la Rivière in summer 2026. If you would like to include an event in your travel plans, check the dates that apply to your travel period.
Planning Your Stay in Caplan
If you are looking for a vacation rental in Caplan, first consider which experiences you want to shape your stay: beach walks, a ride on the cycling trail, nature watching on the trail or a visit to the harbour. Plage de la Rivière is three kilometres west of the village; if this beach is important to your plans, compare this reference point with the specific location details of your accommodation. Also check the accommodation details and availability for your travel dates.
