Kerwood brings together an active park with a story trail, a First World War memorial site and a building with local architectural history. These attractions focus on different themes: the park is about baseball and stories, while other places focus on remembrance, architecture and worship. So when choosing where to go, consider which themes you would like to include in your stay.

Kerwood Park: Baseball and Tales & Trails

Kerwood Park is an active recreational facility in the community of Kerwood, located at 27816 Kerwood Road. The facility includes two baseball diamonds; the southern diamond can be lit. Restrooms are available on site. The two pavilions, North and South, are also available to rent. If you plan to rent one, confirm availability and terms in advance, as both can change.

Kerwood’s Tales & Trails story trail is also located in the park. Pages from children’s picture books are displayed along the trail, giving stories a distinct focus alongside the sports facilities. When possible, the trail may also feature stories from local communities; the stories selected can change. If a particular story is the main reason for your visit, check the current selection rather than assuming it will be there.

Remembrance and Local Architectural History

The Metcalfe Township War Memorial is a First World War memorial site. It is located at 1719 Adele Street in Kerwood, Ontario. After Metcalfe Central School closed, the memorial was moved to Kerwood in 2010. The year 2010 dates the relocation; the memorial is dedicated to the First World War.

Wood’s General Store is considered a valuable and well-known piece of architectural history. The building and property recall the commercial roots along Kerwood Road; its masonry reflects early 20th-century construction. The Middlesex County Heritage Trails feature Wood’s General Store as a stop on a map published on April 26, 2022. If your plans depend on how this stop is currently interpreted or on access to it, please check the latest information beforehand.

Kerwood’s Historical Context

The area’s settlement history also offers context: Kerwood historically developed along the CN rail corridor, which connected the larger centres of Sarnia, Strathroy and London. This connection to the railway adds a broader settlement context to the stories of individual buildings. To understand the area, it expands the view from individual structures to Kerwood’s historical development along a regional corridor.

Sunday Worship

Another specific reason to visit is a service at Grace Canadian Reformed Church at Kerwood. Visitors are welcome to attend services in the church building; they take place on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. If you are planning your visit around a service, confirm the times in advance, as service arrangements can change. The two times provide a clear framework for a Sunday visit.
