In Caithness, Mouth of the Magaguadavic Camping is located where the Magaguadavic River meets Passamaquoddy Bay on the Bay of Fundy. This location combines river access, tidal salt water, and a range of paddling options—three specific starting points for planning your stay.

Campsites at the meeting point of river and bay

Mouth of the Magaguadavic Camping offers access to the fresh water of the Magaguadavic River; several slate beaches are along the tidal salt water. The property has four separate camping areas: Barnes' Point, Charlies Garden, the Villa Point, and the Main Beach. Natural, tall grass grows in the camping areas; some sections are mowed midway through the season. The campground also includes private Blueberry Island.

Paddle upriver or on the salt water

From the campground, paddlers can head upriver on their own to Saint George Basin and Saint George Gorge. Those looking for calmer, warmer waters can choose this route. Along the way, paddlers pass the Three Sisters and a Bald Eagles Nest at the eastern end of the campground. On the salt water of Passamaquoddy Bay, kayakers can paddle past Midjik Bluff from the campground. The choice is between a river route to calmer, warmer waters and a kayak trip on the bay's salt water.

Culture and tides in Charlotte County

In Charlotte County, the Charlotte County Museum offers an introduction to the region's history: since 1961, it has preserved artifacts, presented exhibitions, and offered educational programs and tours about the county's history. St. Andrews Blockhouse was built by residents during the War of 1812 to protect the town from American privateers and military forces. Visitors can tour the barracks and gun battery there.

The Chocolate Museum tells the story of confectionery making in St. Stephen and Ganong's Canadian confectionery innovations. Visitors can watch the Ganong Hand Dippers make chocolate using a method that has remained unchanged for more than a hundred years. In Charlotte County, historic sites and an insight into confectionery making therefore offer different themes for a visit.

Tides are also part of planning in Charlotte County. At St. Andrews Blockhouse, the water level along the coast and in the harbour rises and falls twice daily by an average of 7.24 metres. Ministers Island is accessible only at low tide and includes the Van Horne estate; the island also offers hiking trails and coastal views. Check the tides before planning your visit, as access to the island depends on low tide.

For garden enthusiasts, Kingsbrae Garden in Saint Andrews, in Charlotte County, is a 27-acre horticultural and ornamental garden. It is open daily from mid-May to October; check seasonal visiting hours before your trip.
