Pushevo offers several starting points for a trip focused on nature and local culture: the village is known for a forest of wild-growing cacti, lies on the banks of the Yantra River and has a paleontological site on Dryankov Hill. There are also traditions from village life, collected in a book. These topics offer different perspectives—from a distinctive plant habitat and fossilized marine life to songs and customs.

Getting to Pushevo and accommodation

Regular bus services connect Pushevo with Veliko Tarnovo. As transport services may change, check the connection before travelling. The Varna–Sofia main road also runs about four kilometres from Pushevo.

There is a guesthouse in Pushevo. Check its availability before booking.

Cactus habitat and spring

The cactus habitat is about half a kilometre from the village centre. In January 2025, signs from the paved road indicated the turnoff; check the signs on site. A description from the same month called the route along a narrow path to a rise in the Dola area easy. The site covers about one decare, and trail conditions may change. Visitors also seek out the cactus habitat because of the nearby Biserna Voda spring.

The distance, the described path and the information about the turnoff at the time answer different orientation questions. They are therefore useful together when planning a visit, but do not guarantee current trail conditions or signage.

The Yantra and fossils on Dryankov Hill

Pushevo lies on the banks of the Yantra River. Another natural feature can be found on Dryankov Hill: a protected paleontological site containing fossilized remains of prehistoric marine organisms. The fossils mentioned include corals, mussels, snails, brachiopods, sea urchins and nautiluses. The variety of these groups makes the site especially interesting for travellers interested in natural history. The riverbank and the fossil site represent two different aspects of the landscape and its history.

Spoluka and the traditions of Pushevo

The history of the community centre Spoluka can also be put in context: it was founded in 1923, while its current building was constructed in the 1940s–1950s. The founding and construction dates therefore refer to two different periods. The book Folklorna skrovishnitsa preserves the local way of speaking without editorial changes. More than 60 authentic songs and customs from Pushevo were also collected and published in it. Takiya is considered a Pushevo custom associated with calling for a new home.

These cultural details offer a different way to experience the village than its landscape: Spoluka represents an institution with its own history of founding and construction, while the book preserves collected language, songs and customs. When planning your trip, you can therefore decide whether you are particularly interested in natural history, the cactus habitat or the traditions passed down through generations.
