Negushevo brings together ecclesiastical heritage, community culture, and places of remembrance, along with a viewpoint on the Rudinata Rise. For your travel and accommodation planning, you can explore the village through different interests: church books and religious visual art, village traditions and local history, or views across the village and mountains. Consider which of these themes you would like to shape your stay.
Monument and Local History
The “Tree of Life” monument was erected in Negushevo in 2015 to preserve the history of the Gorna Malina referendum. It is a monument to direct democracy in Bulgaria. The referendum associated with Negushevo is regarded as having protected the natural environment of Gorna Malina municipality and as the beginning of its development into a green municipality. The monument thus connects its creation with a municipal history that reaches beyond the village itself.
The area around Negushevo also preserves remains of a Thracian sanctuary and a medieval fortress. The village has a history on screen, too: Negushevo has been used as a location for Bulgarian films and screen adaptations. The monument, archaeological traces, and film sets offer different ways to explore local history.
Church and Community Culture
The Church of Saint Paraskeva preserves a collection of old Church Slavonic books. Its gallery contains engravings on the Old and New Testaments dating from 1901, and there is also a small memorial exhibition in the church. The collection and gallery have different points of focus: old Church Slavonic books on the one hand, and biblical imagery with a specific date on the other.
The Vazrazhdane-1922 Chitalishte preserves and shares traditional customs. It was founded in 1922 to promote education and the spiritual and moral development of its members and village residents. Its program includes weekly creative workshops for children, Bulgarian folk dance classes, and meetings with authors and artists. It also offers training and meetings on agriculture and sustainable living, as well as cultural events, cinema, and art. These different formats bring together traditions and creative activities with practical topics. The folk dance group represents Negushevo with a repertoire of more than 70 folk dances. If you would like to plan a class or meeting in advance, check the latest dates; programs may change.
Views over the Village and Mountains
The Negushevo Viewpoint is on the Rudinata Rise north of the village. From there, the view stretches across the village and the surrounding mountains. This landscape perspective provides a clear contrast with the ecclesiastical and historical themes. Negushevo is also known as a place that has preserved the atmosphere and charm of times gone by.
Gorna Malina as the Wider Regional Context
Across the wider destination of Gorna Malina, the municipality ranges from 584 m in the area of Dolna Malina to 1,655 m at Mount Zvezdets (Shindarnika) in the area of Stragel. The Makotsevska River flows through the municipality and is a right tributary of the Lesnovska in the Iskar basin. These regional details add the municipality’s wider landscape to the picture of Negushevo.
One distinctive landscape feature in the wider destination of Gorna Malina is the eco-trail from Arabakonak Pass to the Bebresh spring. It runs through the northern part of the municipality, in the Stragel area of the western Stara Planina, and is 8,915 m long. The region also has a literary connection: in 1977, the preserved home of Elin Pelin in Bailovo was converted into a museum to mark the writer’s 100th birthday. The Elin Pelin Memorial House features the exhibition “The Life and Work of Elin Pelin.”
