Novo Selo offers several perspectives when choosing a holiday apartment: everyday culture, individual traditional events and sport each provide a different focus. The ethnographic collection is a different cultural point of interest from a church service or a programme with a set date; sporting options range from a tennis court to several indoor and outdoor sports. Consider whether you want to plan around a specific date or choose culture and sport as themes for your stay. For events and older information about sports, check current dates and availability.
Everyday Culture and Traditions
An ethnographic collection at the Nadezhda 1908 community centre in Novo Selo presents local everyday culture. Items on display include traditional clothing, agricultural tools, woven textiles and household utensils. Photographs focus on revived customs and community groups. Objects from different areas of everyday life are thus shown alongside images of community practices. Those particularly interested in material culture will find a different way to explore the subject here than at a single festival.
A specific custom featured in a cultural programme in 2025: the Kumichene ritual was held at the Novata cheshma (New Fountain) site, where wreaths were set on flowing water. Before visiting, check the location in advance and find out about water conditions. Another event with a clearly defined date is the Ilinden patronal service on 20 July at the Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah. An invitation in 2023 was addressed to residents and visitors. For later visits, confirm the current celebrations.
A 2014 project plan also included Lazaruvane and Koleduvane as activities centred on participatory Bulgarian folk traditions. If you would like to plan your trip around these traditions, it is helpful to check for a current event announcement for the period you have in mind.
Sporting Options and Their Timing
A sports project from 2016 included a restored tennis court with a designated spectator area, as well as new fitness equipment. In 2016, the sports complex supported several indoor and outdoor sports; its courts were lit and could be used in the evening. These offer different perspectives on sport: the tennis court and fitness equipment identify specific elements of a project, while the sports show the complex’s broader focus. If sport is important to your stay, check the condition of the court and equipment locally, as well as current conditions of use and lighting.
Plan Your Programme and Journey
The 2023 municipal summer programme listed the chitalishte in Novo Selo among the venues for creative and educational activities for children. If you would like to plan a trip around such activities, ask about the dates and participating venues for the relevant period.
The Ruse–Novo Selo bus route is listed as running via Ruse East Bus Station, road II-23, the Obraztsov Chiflik turn-off, Ptitsekominat and Chervena Voda. Before travelling, check whether the service is currently operating and which departures apply. This lets you plan your journey using the stated route without relying on an unverified timetable.
