Cycling routes, nature destinations and cultural monuments are spread across various named places. You can decide which ones suit your travel plans by considering their respective features.

Compare cycling routes by length and the places they pass through

A cycling route about 16 kilometres long passes through Kirkovo, Zavoya, Druzhintsi and Chakalarovo. The second route is about 23 kilometres long and passes through Kirkovo, Zavoya, Druzhintsi, Dolno Kapinovo and Gorno Kapinovo. Kirkovo, Zavoya and Druzhintsi appear on both routes; the other places named on each route are different. This allows you to start narrowing down your choice using two specific points: the approximate route length and the places included.

Lengths and routes may change. Check the route locally before cycling. The information allows you to compare the two routes, but does not provide a basis for estimating how long either one will take.

Landscape and views

The Municipality of Kirkovo is located in the Eastern Rhodopes. The municipality describes its preserved natural environment and natural attractions as diverse, and lists ecotourism as one of its development priorities.

At 1,463 metres, Veikata Peak is considered Bulgaria’s southernmost geographical point. In clear weather, the view from the summit extends to Greece, the White Sea and Porto Lagos. Access routes lead through Chakalarovo and Dolno Kapinovo. The elevation, views and named access routes give this destination a different focus from the cycling routes; clear weather is essential for the distant views.

The Maglene Reservoir also offers a distinct connection with nature. It is located near Benkovski in the Municipality of Kirkovo. The reservoir is suitable for fishing year-round, and the gently sloping terrain is suitable for camping trips. Suitability and access may vary by season. If you are planning one of these activities, check local conditions for your visit.

Cultural monuments in different places

In the wider Kirkovo area, an ancient necropolis and a medieval fortress and settlement are located in the Asara area near Krilatitsa. They are designated as cultural monuments. Roman bridges can be found in several villages, including Drangovo, Tihomir and Lozengradtsi. Dobromirtsi is home to a medieval church. These destinations are spread across different places and encompass several forms of historical heritage.

The Mosque of the Seven Maidens is located in Podkova. It was restored in 2009 and is an immovable cultural monument. When visiting cultural sites, check access and the state of preservation locally.

The Old Stone Bridge near Kirkovo

The Old Stone Bridge is about one kilometre from the village of Kirkovo and crosses the Solutska River near the Banichkite area; locals also call it the Kirkovska. It is 22.70 metres long. Its highest arch is five metres high; the two lower arches measure 3.10 metres and two metres, respectively. Centuries-old trees surround the bridge.

The measurements make the differences between the three arches clear: the highest rises above the two lower ones, whose stated heights also differ from each other. Together with the river and the old trees, they make the bridge a distinctive point of architectural and landscape interest. Conditions and access may change; check both before your visit.
