The Oludere and Drangovska rivers flow into the Varbitsa near Dryanova Glava. Their two confluences give the village a clear geographical landmark. The surrounding municipality also has several hiking destinations. This offers different options for choosing an outing: rivers in the village, as well as a summit, waterfall and rock sanctuary in Kirkovo Municipality.

Rivers and Nature near Dryanova Glava

The flow of the Oludere and Drangovska rivers near Dryanova Glava is irregular. Both rivers carry more water in spring and after prolonged rainfall. The confluences and changing water flow are therefore two distinct features of the landscape: the location on the Varbitsa remains a geographical landmark, while water levels vary seasonally.

Nearby, in the Medevci area, stands a sessile oak that is about 480 years old. Its trunk circumference is 6.50 metres, and it is considered easily accessible. Check access conditions before your visit. The oak offers a different natural attraction from the rivers: its approximate age and trunk circumference make the tree a nature destination in its own right.

Hiking Destinations in Kirkovo Municipality

The marked eco-trail from Chakalarovo to Veykata Peak is about 11 kilometres long. Veykata is 1,463 metres above sea level. In clear weather, the summit offers views across large parts of neighbouring Greece and the Aegean Sea. Elevation and views are different planning considerations: the elevation describes the summit, while long-distance views depend on clear visibility.

Damla Kaya near Stareyshino offers a different attraction: the complex includes a small waterfall and is considered suitable for hiking. The route to Damla Kaya from Podkova or Stareyshino is 6 kilometres long. Alongside the summit destination of Veykata, this provides a shorter hiking option centred on water. The two destinations differ both in their landscape features and in the stated route length.

The route from Drangovo to the Golyam Tulpan rock sanctuary is 8.5 kilometres long and passes through the hamlets of Karadzhovska and Peshterska. The sanctuary lies south of Drangovo in Kirkovo Municipality, directly on the Bulgarian-Greek border. An oval altar is located on the highest and flattest part of the rocky summit. This destination centres on an archaeological landmark, unlike the waterfall and summit options.

By route length, the options range from six kilometres to Damla Kaya, through 8.5 kilometres to Golyam Tulpan, to about eleven kilometres to Veykata Peak. The destinations also differ in what they offer: a small waterfall, an oval altar or views in clear weather. The longest route is about five kilometres longer than the shortest.
