Held every year in March, Expodireto Cotrijal gives travel planning for Não-Me-Toque a clear seasonal focus: the international agribusiness fair is a specific reason to connect the town with agriculture and the regional economy. Cultural landmarks and recurring events are other distinct topics. When choosing when to travel, it is worth distinguishing between the fair, individual editions of festivals, and local attractions.
Fair and event dates
Expodireto Cotrijal takes place every year in March. Another event is Expo Não-Me-Toque, which showcases the potential of the municipality’s small and medium-sized businesses and includes several shows. Natal Iluminado was first held in 2021 and has offered a varied program in Não-Me-Toque ever since. Most Natal Iluminado events take place at Praça Dr. Otto Schmiedt. Each edition of Páscoa Vida e Luz includes a cultural and artistic program for children and adults. If you are traveling for a festival, check the dates for that particular edition before planning your trip.
Cultural sites and local landmarks
The Casal Holandês monument is a tourist attraction in Não-Me-Toque. It depicts a farming couple from the province of Brabant around 1930. Praça Dr. Otto Schmiedt is home to two other named cultural works: Ons Huisje, a typical Dutch house, was built there in 2003. The Met Kruis em Ploeg monument was erected in 1999 in the square in front of Cristo Rei Catholic Church. Together, a figurative sculpture, a house, and a monument represent different aspects of local life. The square is also where most Natal Iluminado events take place.
Products and rural businesses
Local products also offer an insight into a range of production activities. Embutidos Bini in São José do Centro makes traditional regional products, which are sold at the farm and in shops in town. The Ovos de Granja – Nelson Bartz poultry farm in Colônia Saudades has 4,000 laying hens and produces around 2,200 eggs a day. Visits to the poultry farm must be arranged in advance.
Cooperativa Agroindustrial Delícias da Colônia in Arroio Bonito makes food products with regional, traditional, and artisanal characteristics. Piscicultura – Mauri Kissmann in Arroio Bonito began operating in 1988. Its activities include the reproduction, production, and marketing of fish fry, as well as the development of farming technologies for native species. The businesses listed therefore differ both in their products and in their activities.
Rio Grande do Sul: distinct nature destinations
The wider destination of Rio Grande do Sul also offers distinct nature destinations. At Parque Estadual de Itapuã, Praia das Pombas and Praia da Pedreira are open to visitors; each beach is limited to 350 visitors per day. Check the current regulations before visiting.
In clear weather, the Trilha do Mirante at Cânion Fortaleza offers views of the canyon and part of the Rio Grande do Sul coast. Pedra do Segredo is also located there: the five-meter-high, 30-ton boulder is balanced on a 50-centimeter-wide base. At Cânion Itaimbezinho, the upper trails Trilha do Vértice and Trilha do Cotovelo run for 5 to 9 km through Araucaria forest and highland grasslands to viewpoints and picnic spots. The Andorinhas and Véu de Noiva waterfalls can also be seen from Trilha do Vértice.
A different landscape awaits on the 8-to-10-km Trilha do Rio do Boi at Cânion Itaimbezinho. It passes through Atlantic Rainforest and riparian forest, along the canyon slope and rocks beside the river, and through a river. Cânion Itaimbezinho is in Parque Nacional de Aparados da Serra on RS 429, 18 km from the center of Cambará do Sul. Cânion Monte Negro is home to Pico do Monte Negro, the highest point in the state of Rio Grande do Sul at 1,403 meters.
Plan your stay around your reason for traveling
When choosing your travel dates, it helps to distinguish between the fair and individual festival editions: Expodireto Cotrijal takes place every year in March, while Natal Iluminado and Páscoa Vida e Luz each have their own editions. If you are traveling for an event, check its specific date first, then plan your search for a vacation rental in Não-Me-Toque accordingly.
