Prozor combines a mountainous setting with historic sites in the town center and cultural destinations in the municipal area. For planning, it helps to distinguish between locations: the Old Fortress, the Sahat-Kula and the parish church are in Prozor; the Franciscan monastery with its museum is in Šćit, 10 km to the west. This makes it possible to plan your stay around local history, the museum and the landscape, rather than treating the destinations as a single place.

Landscape between the mountains and Ramsko jezero

Prozor lies between Makljen (1,370 m), Kolivrata (1,174 m), the slopes of Vran (2,074 m) and Raduša (1,456 m). The terrain around Prozor consists of limestone and dolomite. Ramsko jezero lies in the upper Rama Basin in northern Herzegovina, in the area of today's municipality of Prozor-Rama; it is framed by Raduša, Makljen, Ljubuša and Vran.

The Old Fortress and the history of the town

The Old Fortress of Prozor is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Its fortifications date from the late Middle Ages and the Ottoman period. It stands on the rocky hill of Grad above the confluence of the Prozorčica and the Kraljevac stream. The protected area is intended for public access and for educational and cultural purposes. Its historic building phases, monument status and location above the confluence give the site a clear local connection.

Monastery, church and museum in Šćit

The Franciscan monastery and the Church of the Assumption of Mary in Šćit are also a national monument. The Ethnographic Museum is housed in the old monastery building, built in 1857. Its exhibits present life among the people of the Rama region through traditional crafts, agriculture, means of transport, domestic culture and textile production. The museum visit thus complements the fortress's history with themes of everyday life and work in the region.

Šćit lies 10 km west of Prozor. A road about 2 km long, running over an artificial dam, connects the village with the shore of Ramsko jezero.

Other cultural sites in Prozor

The Čaršijska džamija is also part of the town's history; it is on the provisional list of national monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Sahat-Kula in Prozor dates from around 1700. The stained-glass windows in the parish church were created by academic painter Ante Mamuša. The Prozor parish was established in 1906, and its new parish church was completed in 1968. These dates trace the town's history from the Sahat-Kula, dating from around 1700, to the more recent construction history of the parish church.

Archaeology and practical planning

The permanent exhibition “New Archaeological Research in Rama,” described in October 2025, includes material from the Prozor site as well as archaeological sites from Rama. A notice dated October 17, 2025, listed weekday visiting hours as 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Before setting out, check whether the exhibition is currently open and what visiting hours apply.

Cycling and recreational fishing

The “Cycling through Rama” program includes the marked Prozor–Here–Uzdol–Prozor cycling route. Check the current signage before setting out. Recreational fishing takes place in waters across the municipal area, including Ramsko jezero and the municipality's rivers. Before fishing, check local regulations and access. The cycling route specifies a particular sequence of places; when fishing, the focus is instead on choosing a body of water and checking the applicable rules and access conditions.
