The Drina flows through the centre of Goražde and shapes the character of the city. The destination combines the river with cultural history and places to enjoy the outdoors: alongside the Zavičajni muzej Goražde and the annual Festival Prijateljstva, there are viewpoints, forests and the Žanj on a river island. When planning your trip, the question is whether to focus on culture, views or activities by the water.

Riverside paths and river scenery

The banks of the Drina in Goražde offer opportunities to relax, go for walks and enjoy nature; the river is considered emerald-green and clear. Goražde has more than 10 km of paved paths along the river. This means you can make walks by the water a distinct part of your stay, alongside breaks on the riverbank and enjoying nature.

Cultural history at the Zavičajni muzej Goražde

The Zavičajni muzej Goražde opened in 2016. Its first exhibition, “Ratna izložba,” opened on 18 September 2016 and covers Goražde and its residents from 1992 to 1995. One exhibition uses personal belongings to tell the story of the population’s survival, creativity and resourcefulness during the siege. For travellers interested in recent history, the museum offers both a clearly defined time period and a perspective on the population’s experiences.

The Festival Prijateljstva

The Festival Prijateljstva is an annual event celebrating culture, art and international friendship in Goražde. Its programme includes music, dance, theatre, film screenings and various artistic performances. The event thus brings together several art forms. If you would like to include the festival in your stay, check the dates for your travel year.

Viewpoints and places for excursions

The Gubavica viewpoint is a five- to six-minute walk from Goražde and offers a beautiful view of the city and the Drina. Gubavica is also known for music events that attract many visitors. The Rorovi excursion site is two kilometres from the centre of Goražde and also offers beautiful views of the Drina and the city. It features war exhibits such as tanks, guns and anti-aircraft equipment, as well as a memorial house dedicated to Commander Zaim Imamović. The surrounding forests are suitable for walks and relaxation. At Gubavica, the focus is on views and music events; Rorovi combines views of the city and river with exhibits, a memorial house and forest.

The Žanj on a river island

On warm days, the banks of the Drina are a gathering place for socialising, swimming, boating and water sports. The Žanj is the most popular city beach in the centre of Goražde and is located on a river island. It is a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing and kayaking. The Žanj is therefore a specific place to go for beach activities, while the riverbanks also offer space to relax and go for walks.
