In winter, Warth offers direct access to the ski area, with village runs leading almost to the front doors. Trails, mountain tours and cultural sites add further highlights to its winter offerings.
Ski Connections and Winter Walking
Two dates help put the ski connections into context: in the 2013/14 winter season, the Auenfeldjet linked the Warth-Schröcken and Lech Zürs ski areas. Since the 2016/17 winter season, all the places mentioned along the Arlberg—from Warth-Schröcken via Lech Zürs, Stuben and St. Christoph to St. Anton—have been accessible on skis. The guided “Pfarrer Müller” ski tour runs from Warth to Lech Zürs am Arlberg and commemorates a ski pioneer of the past. Before planning, check whether it will run in your preferred season.
The Waldrundweg is a winter walk from the village square via Seebachsee, Höhiwald and the hamlet of Teschenberg, returning to the centre of Warth. The Dorfweg Warth runs from the village centre past historic buildings and scenic viewpoints. The Lechweg climbs from the Grenztobel gorge between Lech and Warth, through the Höhenwald forest, to the Walser village of Warth. Each route offers a different experience: a winter walk that returns to the village centre, a local trail passing buildings and viewpoints, or an uphill route to the Walser village.
Mountain Tours and Via Ferratas
The Steffisalp-Express takes visitors up to 1,884 m, where a popular starting point for numerous mountain activities is located. The approach to the Karhorn via ferrata can be reached on foot in around 45 minutes from the top station. The tour along the east ridge to the summit of the Karhorn is a different objective: it takes about two and a half hours, including the approach, and covers 550 metres of elevation gain. This distinction makes it easier to plan for the walk to the via ferrata entrance separately from the time required for the east-ridge tour.
Schrofenwies climbing garden is about a one-minute walk east from the Lechleiten car park. The Murmele via ferrata is located in the climbing garden in Warth-Lechleiten. It is a practice via ferrata for small children and for those trying via ferrata climbing for the first time. This specific focus makes it a distinct option alongside the mountain tours on the Karhorn.
Walser and Ski History
The Walserhus is a 15th-century building and the oldest building in Warth. It can only be viewed from the outside; entry is not possible. The Warth Ski Museum offers a different historical focus: this small, lovingly furnished barn gives visitors a glimpse into the early days of skiing in Warth. At the World Peace Cross on the Simmel, visitors can pause and reflect on universal values of peace; the site is dedicated to contemplation. Together, these places span a cultural range from Warth’s oldest building to local ski history and a place for reflection.
