Hellmonsödt combines scenic circular hikes on the high plateau with themed trails, cultural attractions and seasonal leisure activities. When choosing a holiday apartment, your travel interests can be a deciding factor: outdoor activities, historic sites or a winter stay with cross-country skiing options. The outdoor pool and cross-country ski trails are seasonal.

Hiking trails with a range of themes

Circular trails on the Hellmonsödt high plateau invite you to enjoy extended hikes with panoramic views. From Hellmonsödt, you can also enjoy views of the mountain ranges of the Alpine foothills. The Planet Trail Hellmonsödt, established in 2006, offers a themed route: this accessible circular trail is four kilometres long and features information boards about the planets and the solar system. The Planet Trail also has children's play equipment and a picnic area.

Families with younger children may enjoy the Hans Helmon Storybook Trail. This stroller-friendly circular trail is around 2.5 kilometres long, with a walking time of about 40 minutes. Another option for children is the R3 Bird Nature Trail loop, which was created by private individuals and is particularly suitable for them. A mountain biking loop starts at the Pelmberg Open-Air Museum in Hellmonsödt and features steep climbs and descents. If you plan to ride the route, you can take these changes in elevation into account when choosing.

Cultural history in Hellmonsödt

At the Pelmberg Open-Air Museum, the Mittermayr heritage farm offers a vivid picture of historical working and living conditions on a Mühlviertel farm. The Mittermayr farm was first mentioned in official records in 1325. The open-air museum also includes an 18-metre-long escape tunnel carved into granite, which visitors can walk through stooped over. The farm's history and the tunnel illustrate different aspects of historical life and building practices.

The Starhemberg crypt in Hellmonsödt Parish Church contains the 400-year-old mummy of a small child. The child is believed to have been Gregor von Starhemberg, who was born in 1566 and died in 1567. The Starhemberg family crypt chapel at Wildberg was added to the parish church around 1520. The war memorial was erected north of the parish church in 1925; its broken marble column symbolises the soldiers' sudden deaths. The history of Hellmonsödt Monastery can also be traced through two dates: construction began on 18 July 1927, and the monastery was consecrated on 3 April 1929.

Cross-country skiing and seasonal leisure activities

In winter, the cross-country ski trails vary in both length and style. The Panoramic Trail is four or six kilometres long, depending on the starting point. At Wasserwald Leisure Park, a loop of around 1.2 kilometres is groomed for both skating and classic cross-country skiing. This lets you choose a trail to suit your preferred distance and skiing style. Winter conditions and trail grooming can vary; check the current conditions if a particular trail is a deciding factor for your outing.

Hellmonsödt Outdoor Pool is a seasonal attraction. This family-friendly pool has a leisure pool with an underwater bench and a large waterslide, as well as a children's pool with a slide and a water play stream. There is also a beach volleyball court. Bear the seasonal opening period in mind when planning a visit to the outdoor pool.
