In Haigermoos, church history and moorland offer different points of interest for visitors. The parish church, nature trail and Lake Höllerersee provide tangible cultural and natural attractions. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first decide which focus you would like to shape your stay.

A distinctive parish church and its history

Haigermoos Parish Church is Austria’s only twin church of this architectural design and was completed in 1466. It is dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul and was first mentioned in a document around 1070. These two dates mark different milestones: 1070 is the first documented mention, while 1466 is the date of completion. For visitors interested in culture, this provides a clear historical point of reference in the village.

Lake district, moorland and nature trail

Haigermoos lies in the heart of the Upper Innviertel Lake District, in a scenic hilly landscape between Lake Höllerersee and Lake Holzöstersee. Lake Höllerersee is a typical moor lake; its northern section lies within the municipality of Haigermoos. This means the varied natural features to consider when planning a trip include a hilly landscape and a moor lake.

The Haigermoos Nature Trail is approximately 5.5 kilometres long and leads through woodland and moorland in and around the village. It starts at the municipal centre in the heart of Haigermoos, where parking is available. The approximate route length and named starting point provide orientation if you would like to make the trail a focus of your stay.

At the edge of the village, the route turns left onto a farm track, which is also known as the Via Nova Pilgrimage Route. Haigermoos is also on the VIA NOVA section from Mining to Berndorf.

Chapel, views and hikes

The Hubertus Chapel is an open-air chapel of modern architecture in Haigermoos, with a view of the parish church. It also offers a view over the surrounding countryside and serves as a starting point for hikes in the region. Architecture, views of the church and countryside, and access to hiking routes come together at this named location; the nature trail, in turn, leads through woodland and moorland.

Nature and art also come together at the edge of Brackwald forest: visitors can see artworks and wooden sculptures created by former farmer Georg Felber of the Anthaler estate. The works add a cultural touch to the nature trail experience described here.

There are many opportunities for hiking and cycling in Haigermoos. The idyllic moorland in the district of Hehermoos is particularly appealing for hikes and cycling trips.

Lake Höllerersee as another point of interest

The Haigermoos Tourist Association’s bathing area is located at Lake Höllerersee. If you are planning a day of swimming there, check the latest visitor information in advance, as seasonal operating details may change. This allows you to include the bathing area as a separate part of your trip planning.
