Discover Sankt Georgen am Fillmannsbach via the Wolfgangweg, local walking paths and its historic buildings. At Friedensplatz in the village of Fillmannsbach, several information panels provide details about the municipality; the square has existed since 2018. There is also an artistically designed rock from Falkenstein there. The panels and the rock give the square a specific local connection. When choosing a destination, you can therefore decide between focusing on walking and exploring churches, buildings and their history.

Wolfgangweg and Local Circular Route

The St. Georgen am Fillmannsbach pilgrims’ rest stop is on the Wolfgangweg, a pilgrimage route from Regensburg to St. Wolfgang. At the rest stop is a large erratic boulder from Falkenstein on Lake Wolfgang. If you are planning a longer pilgrimage stage, check the route details locally. A local circular route is a different option: closing the gap to the “Brauereiweg” created a three-kilometre loop. A footpath closes the gap to the “Brauereiweg”; the stated length refers to the resulting circular route. This means there are two distinct route options: the Wolfgangweg has named endpoints, while the circular route has a specific distance. This distinction is useful when planning, because the two details describe different types of route.

Gothic Church and Baroque Furnishings

The Catholic parish church of St. George is a single-nave Gothic conglomerate-stone church; its west tower has retained its original appearance. The furnishings are mostly Baroque, but include some Gothic remnants. Two Gothic figures of Catherine and Barbara, dating from the late 15th century, are located on the gallery balustrade. The historic bells date from 1515. The building, its furnishing periods and individual works of art can thus be distinguished: the building is Gothic in character, the furnishings are predominantly Baroque, and the figures are a dated late medieval detail. A document issued by Emperor Henry III in 1040 mentions a “capella s. Georgii martiris” at Wildsteig—a further historical reference to the Chapel of St. George at Wildsteig.

Rectory, Brewery and Castle Site

The rectory at St. Georgen 13 was built in 1791 and rebuilt after a fire in 1843. The two-storey building has a hipped roof, simple plaster-framed detailing and a statue niche above the entrance. As of 23 June 2026, the heritage register lists the Catholic parish church of St. George as a protected monument; it is protected by ordinance. The rectory is also protected by ordinance. For the former König brewery at Fillmannsbach 1, the register lists a decision under Section 3. A medieval castle site with a still-visible defensive ditch lies where the present-day Calvary Chapel stands. A visible trace of medieval fortification and buildings from different periods thus add to the history of the village.
