Lermoos lies at the foot of the Grubigstein and is known for its beautiful views of the Wetterstein massif. The two landmarks serve different purposes: the Grubigstein identifies the village’s location, while the Wetterstein massif is the view. Together, they give this destination a clear sense of its landscape. When choosing accommodation, your preferred activities for the day can also help: in addition to an easy trail with a defined route and duration, there is an interactive play and adventure trail and, in the Catholic Parish Church of St. Catherine, a protected historic cultural landmark. This gives the village distinct options for outdoor activities and architecture.

Trails and Mountain Railway

The Moosle’s Explorer Trail starts at the Grubigsteinbahn’s mid-station, at an elevation of 1,338 metres, and leads downhill to Lermoos along forest and meadow paths. The trail is easy, 2.7 kilometres long and takes about an hour on foot. It has seven explorer stations and offers fun and entertainment for the whole family against the backdrop of the Grubigstein. The distance, elevation, terrain and walking time give you practical details for fitting the trail into your day’s plans.

The Grubigsteinbahn carries passengers from Lermoos in two sections to an elevation of 2,028 metres. It operates seasonally, so check the current operating hours before including the railway in your plans. The two elevation figures refer to different points: 1,338 metres is the elevation of the mid-station, where the explorer trail begins; 2,028 metres is the elevation to which the railway carries passengers.

Moosle’s Enchanted Forest offers a different experience: this interactive play and adventure trail has nine stations for children and adults. The explorer trail features stations along a clearly defined downhill route, while the Enchanted Forest focuses on interactive play and adventure. So when choosing between them, it’s not just the difference between seven and nine stations that matters, but also whether you prefer an easy walk or an interactive experience.

Rococo and Building History

The Catholic Parish Church of St. Catherine in Lermoos is a protected historic building. As a later offshoot of the FĂĽssen School of Architecture, it belongs to a distinct architectural tradition; overall, it forms a beautiful Rococo ensemble. Its building history can be divided into two periods: the shell was built from 1751 to 1754, and the tower was redesigned from 1761 to 1768. The dates therefore refer to different construction phases, not to the building of the entire church in a single period. Those interested in architecture not only for its style but also for its development will find both here: a connection to the architectural school and a construction history that unfolded in stages.

Another Trail Starting Point

The Lermoos–Ehrwald Panorama Trail starts at Lermoos railway station. This means there are two distinct starting points: the station for the Panorama Trail and the Grubigsteinbahn’s mid-station for the explorer trail. This makes it easier to sort the trails by starting point when planning your stay; they range from a panoramic route to an easy downhill trail with explorer stations.
