Forchach lies in the core zone of the Tiroler Lech Nature Park. The Lech riverbed is particularly expansive and impressive here; the Lech braid winds its way through it and can be seen from the surrounding peaks. The landscape thus provides a clear framework for choosing activities. You can plan at different scales: the wide riverbed, a single structure or a named route. This lets you tailor your stay to nature, hiking or cultural and historical points of interest.
Suspension Bridge and Wild River
The Forchach Suspension Bridge is 138 metres long, wheelchair-accessible and suitable for pushchairs. It opened to pedestrians in August 2020. Its length and accessibility are two distinct practical points of reference. If pedestrian access is important for your visit, check local notices in advance.
Visitor facilities at the suspension bridge include play features, a public barbecue area and information about the wild river habitat. The information also covers LIFE Project 2, completed in 2022, and its river restoration and species conservation measures. If you are interested in the habitat as well as the bridge, these materials offer a separate thematic focus. River restoration means supporting natural river dynamics; species conservation measures complement this ecological focus on the river.
Routes and Hiking
Each of the two routes focuses on a different itinerary. “Forchach to the Suspension Bridge” starts at the sports ground and returns to the starting point. The “Forchach – Suspension Bridge to Stanzach” route crosses the suspension bridge to Jagdhaus Feldele and then continues through forests over the Schwarzwasserbach Bridge into the Errach area. The first description specifies a starting and return point; the second can be followed by its named destinations and forest section. When choosing, consider whether a fixed starting point or this sequence of stops matters more to you.
Another option is the wild river landscape near Forchach, which the nature park classifies as an easy hike. If you are specifically looking for an easy hike, this gives you a concrete point of reference. The options therefore differ in what guides you: this one focuses on its difficulty rating, while the other two focus on their described itineraries.
Cultural and Historical Points of Interest
The church and Hochstanzer Alpe also offer points of interest in their own right. The Catholic branch and exposition church of St Sebastian, with its cemetery in Forchach, is a listed monument. Hochstanzer Alpe is situated at an elevation of 1,600 m. These details offer different cultural, historical and topographical perspectives: the church is notable for its listed status, while the alpine pasture is notable for its elevation. Together, they complement the nature and route themes with specific points of reference to the village’s history.
