Roman traces and Baroque art

An information board links the Via Claudia Augusta with a road station on the Roman military road, dating to 46 AD, that was probably located in Breitenwang. Its presumed location remains part of the historical account. On his Italian campaign, Emperor Lothair III stopped in Breitenwang, where he died on 4 December 1137.
Another historical subject is the Holy Sepulchre, created in 1738 for the Church of the Resurrection. It is located right next to the deanery parish church. The work is by Baroque painter Balthasar Riepp, who was assisted by his pupil Franz Anton Zeiller from Reutte. Together, these details show both Breitenwang’s historical significance and its specific connection to Baroque art.
