Sankt Christoph am Arlberg is a ski resort at around 1,800 metres. The village is also shaped by trails with different route connections and by the history of the hospice and brotherhood. When planning a stay, you can consider these highlights separately: skiing, a particular mountain route or historic sites offer different reasons to choose this destination.
Skiing and courses
The Ski Austria Academy St. Christoph am Arlberg includes a Tyrolean ski school. The Academy also offers freeride courses with guides. The ski school and freeride courses are different options for a winter sports-focused stay. Course availability and dates may vary; check the current offerings if a course is important to your travel plans.
Mountain trails with different route connections
The Arlberg Trail connects Lech, ZĂĽrs, Stuben, St. Christoph and St. Anton in three stages over a total of 52 kilometres. This distance refers to the entire route, not to each individual stage. The Adlerweg begins or ends at the Arlberg Hospiz Hotel in St. Christoph. The Berggeistweg offers another route option: a cross-border ascent from St. Christoph on the Arlberg Pass leads along it to the KaltenberghĂĽtte.
The routes differ in their course and points of reference: the Arlberg Trail connects several villages in three stages, the Arlberg Hospiz Hotel is a starting or end point for the Adlerweg, and the Berggeistweg leads to the Kaltenberghütte. You can first consider whether you’re interested in a multi-stage connection between villages, a route associated with the hotel, or an ascent with a specific mountain hut as your destination.
Hospice history and the Brotherhood Chapel
In the 14th century, the former St. Christoph hospice offered travellers life-saving shelter from storms. The Arlberg hospice was built by Heinrich Findelkind in 1386. Together, these historical details provide both a specific construction date and a connection to the history of travel at the time.
The Brotherhood Chapel is the spiritual centre of the Brotherhood of St. Christoph. It has three figurative stained-glass windows by Martin Häusle, dating from 1961. Masses were held in the hospice chapel for locals, visitors and friends of the Arlberg, as well as for the Brotherhood of St. Christoph. The chapels are notable for their spiritual role and artistic features, as well as for their historical use.
Maiensee and the adventure trail
Maiensee is a lake and a natural attraction in Sankt Christoph am Arlberg. An adventure trail that is particularly suitable for children starts at the lake. If you’re planning a trip with children, this trail is a specific option to consider; its starting point at Maiensee sets it apart from the multi-stage connection between villages on the Arlberg Trail or the ascent to the Kaltenberghütte.
