Gently rolling countryside, cycling routes and local cultural sites give Hofstätten an der Raab several distinct highlights. The landscape invites you to go for a walk, while the cycling routes differ considerably in their total length and course. There are also two chapels with specific local histories, as well as the Kunsttrail Region Gleisdorf, a circular route passing art installations in several municipalities. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose how to balance outdoor activities, regional art and the stories behind individual buildings.
Cycling Routes and Landscape
The WZ10 energy cycling route runs from Weiz to Sulz and is 25 kilometres long. In the municipality of Hofstätten an der Raab, it passes through Pirching. Considerably longer is the Raabtal cycling route R11: its total length is 113 kilometres, and it runs from the source of the Raab to Jennersdorf. In Hofstätten, the R11 follows the Raab through maize and pumpkin fields. This gives you two points of comparison: the WZ10’s shorter overall length and the R11’s specifically described course alongside the river and fields in Hofstätten. The endpoints help distinguish the full routes, while the references to Pirching and to the Raab and fields locate each route within the municipality.
Art in a Regional Context
The Kunsttrail Region Gleisdorf was established in 2023. It is a continuous circular route of about 48 kilometres, passing art installations in Gleisdorf, Albersdorf-Prebuch, Ludersdorf-Wilfersdorf, Hofstätten/Raab and St. Ruprecht/Raab. At about 48 kilometres, it falls between the two cycling routes in length; its course through several municipalities and its focus on art installations give it a different thematic emphasis. The sculpture of the Kunst.Hot.Spot Hofstätten/Raab stands at the entrance to the municipal centre.
Chapels and Local History
The Hartl Chapel in Pirchingberg was built in 1893 on the site of a cross first mentioned in 1646. The Haidinger Chapel in Wetzawinkel was built in 1828 in gratitude for the completion of a nearby farmer’s farm building. Chronologically, the Haidinger Chapel predates the Hartl Chapel; the reference to the cross in Pirchingberg reaches further back, to its mention in 1646. Their origins also differ: the Hartl Chapel centres on an earlier cross at the site, while the Haidinger Chapel was built in connection with a farm building. This lets you consider the construction date, reason for construction and older historical reference separately.
Getting Your Bearings and Regional Cuisine
For geographical orientation, Hofstätten lies on the Süd motorway and the Styrian Eastern Railway. Both transport routes offer an initial point of reference for locating the town in the region. The local focus extends to food, too: there are numerous Buschenschanken and inns in and around Hofstätten an der Raab. If you want to make food a focus of your trip, you can take both the town and its surroundings into account when planning.
