Gasen offers a range of themes to choose from during your stay: a clearly defined circular trail, church and music history, and experiences involving water, alpacas, and herbs. When planning, it helps to consider whether you would rather spend time outdoors, get to know the music scene, or visit a business with a guided tour. The outdoor swimming pool in the town centre adds a seasonal swimming option.

Trails, Water and Flood Protection

The Stoakogler Heritage Hiking Trail is a 10-kilometre circular trail that starts and ends at the Stoani House. The Mill Panorama Trail starts and ends in the centre of Gasen. When planning, one trail stands out for its specific circular route and length, while the other is defined by its connection to the town centre.

The Gasen Flood Protection Experience Trail focuses on water as a source of life and a natural hazard. It uses playful activities to show the power of water, why flood protection matters, and the role forests play in the water cycle. In 2024, the project, which includes flood protection measures and the Gasen Experience Trail, took second place in the Flooding/Heavy Rain category of the State Award for Climate Change Adaptation (CliA).

Church History and Music

The history of the parish church in Gasen began with the construction of the first church around 1280. Around 1360, the church was extended; in 1688, it was given a Baroque makeover and enlarged into its present form. These milestones span the church’s origins through to its Baroque transformation.

The Stoani House of Music features a multimedia show in a cinema setting and listening stations. At the listening stations, the Stoanis share personal and moving stories. These stories cover their working and private lives as well as the music scene as a whole. The focus is therefore not only on the presentation format, but also on the people and the musical environment.

Alpaca and Herb Experiences

At the Stelzer Alpaca Mountain Farm, visitors can tour the farm, including the alpaca barn and enclosure, visit the farm shop, or take a guided alpaca hike. The experience covers the animals’ breeding and daily lives, as well as their wool and the products made from it. The farm thus combines an insight into its operations with information about the animals and their wool.

The Pöllabauer family herb garden (known locally as Hochegger) lies at an altitude of 1,100 metres in Gasen. Herbs, flowers, trees, and shrubs grow there. A guided tour of the farm with a tasting adds to the visit. The herb garden focuses on plants and tastings, while the alpaca farm focuses on alpacas and their wool.

Outdoor Swimming Pool and Regional Setting

Gasen outdoor swimming pool is located right in the town centre and has a heated outdoor pool and a heated children’s pool with a baby area. As swimming is seasonal, it is worth checking the current opening hours before your visit.

The municipality of Gasen is in the Almenland region and is part of Almenland Nature Park. This regional context complements the specific experiences available locally, from trails and learning about water to history, music, and farm visits.
