The parish church of St. Andrew, the Waldromantik circular trail and the Anger outdoor swimming pool offer different ways to spend your stay: architectural history, hiking and outdoor recreation. Rauchstubenhaus and the Styrian Apple Road each have their own appeal, too. If you are looking for accommodation in Anger, deciding what you want to focus on can help you choose—for example, whether to allow more time for cultural history, a hike or a visit to the swimming pool.
Rauchstubenhaus and architectural history
Rauchstubenhaus is also known as the Hube in Erleschachen. It is more than 300 years old and offers a glimpse into the way of life and culture of earlier mountain farmers and craftspeople. More than 300 exhibits focus on life in the past. The house was first mentioned in books in 1440.
The parish church of St. Andrew in Anger was built between 1708 and 1711 by master builder Lorenz Stattaler from St. Ruprecht an der Raab. Its oldest part dates from an earlier building phase: it was built around 1161 as a Romanesque choir-tower church and decorated with frescoes in the 14th century. Several clearly dated phases in the building’s history can therefore be distinguished in the same church.
The Church of the Fourteen Holy Helpers in Anger is the most important pilgrimage church in the upper Feistritz Valley. Another building with a distinct period character is Ulrichskirche on Külml: its present appearance is primarily the result of a renovation around 1715. The “Mystical Underworlds and Upper Worlds” museum is housed in Steinpaißhaus, a building dating from the 13th century.
Archaeological sites and underground structures in the area around Anger can also be visited, but only by prior arrangement. Bear this requirement in mind when planning a visit.
Hiking for different purposes
The Waldromantik circular trail starts at Anger swimming pool, the town’s main hiking starting point. It continues to the district of Brand, from where it offers a view of Anger. The Erlebnisweg trail to Rauchstubenhaus is a challenging hike from Anger to the Rauchstubenhaus local history museum and the Almer inn in Edelschachen. The named destinations and the description of the second hike offer different points to consider when choosing a route. As route details and conditions at the starting point may change, check the latest trail information before setting out.
Swimming pool and outdoor recreation
Anger outdoor swimming pool has a sports pool, a children’s pool, a baby pool and a beach volleyball court. There is a children’s playground in the park in front of the pool, which is accessible even outside the swimming pool’s opening hours. As facilities and access arrangements may change, check the latest information before your visit.
The Styrian Apple Road and tastings
Anger is one of the municipalities along the Styrian Apple Road. The Schloffer organic farm offers tastings of organic products such as juice, Frizzante and schnapps. Please arrange your tasting options before you arrive.
