Flachau can be explored through a range of travel interests: the Enns Cycle Path starts right in town, Stoneman Taurista offers three possible ride durations, and three ski areas are available in winter. There is also an annual women’s night slalom, a Baroque church in the town centre, seasonal water activities and a circular trail suitable for pushchairs. When planning your trip, it helps to first decide whether to focus on cycling, winter sports, culture or water. The activities also differ in terms of timing: some are seasonal, while the specific event dates are important for the World Cup.
Cycling: Route or Ride Duration
The Enns Cycle Path starts right in Flachau and runs for around 250 kilometres through Salzburg, Styria and Upper Austria. Its overall length and route through three federal states provide a geographical framework for a longer cycling trip. Stoneman Taurista puts a different emphasis on planning: it can be ridden in one, two or three days. The Enns Cycle Path is therefore defined by its approximate distance and the federal states it passes through, while Stoneman is defined by the possible ride duration. When comparing the two, you can first decide whether a total distance or a time frame is more useful to you.
Ski Areas and World Cup
Three ski areas are part of Flachau in winter: Snow Space Salzburg, Shuttleberg Flachauwinkl-Kleinarl and Skiparadies Zauchensee-Flachauwinkl. All three are part of Ski amadé. Snow Space Salzburg has 210 kilometres of slopes, 70 lift facilities and 85 ski huts. Snow reliability is stated for Flachau, Wagrain and St. Johann. As the ski areas’ operating periods are seasonal, it is worth checking your preferred dates before travelling.
The Audi FIS Ski World Cup Flachau includes the women’s night slalom on the Hermann Maier FIS World Cup course every year. If you are planning specifically around this event, check the dates in advance. This makes it possible to distinguish seasonal winter sports from planning around a specific event date.
Town Centre and Circular Trail
The Catholic Church of Flachau stands on a small hill in the middle of the town centre. The single-nave Baroque church was consecrated on 8 September 1722. Its central location and clearly defined architectural style make it a specific cultural place to visit in Flachau. “Single-nave” describes the layout of the church interior; together with the consecration date, it provides an architectural and historical perspective on the building.
Flori’s Adventure Trail offers another way to spend time outdoors. The easy-to-walk circular trail is suitable for pushchairs and combines play stations with rest areas and viewpoints. These stations give the route different focal points: along the way, there are both places to play and spots to rest and take in the views. If you are looking for a route with opportunities to pause, you can take the details about the trail and its facilities directly into account when planning.
Water Activities
Guided rafting trips are available in Flachau. These include an easy introductory white-water trip for beginners, as well as trips on more challenging white water. The offer may vary depending on the season and provider. When planning, you can distinguish between an introductory trip and more challenging options without treating the different difficulty levels as equivalent.
Stand-up paddleboarding is offered seasonally at Lake Flachauwinkl. Rafting and stand-up paddleboarding are two different ways to enjoy the water: guided white-water trips focus on rafting, while stand-up paddleboarding is offered at the lake. For a specific trip, check which seasonal activities are available during your dates.
