Get to know Adnet through its marble landscape: the Marble Museum focuses on the stone’s formation, quarrying, working and transport; the Marble Trail leads through the marble quarries. Moorland and plant habitats, as well as the plateau, offer their own nature experiences. A stay here therefore offers a choice of cultural history and nature experiences.

Marble and its history

The Adnet Marble Museum documents the formation, quarrying, working and transport of marble. Records dating back to the 2nd century also show that the Romans had already established quarries in Adnet to extract stone. The story of the stone therefore extends from its extraction to its working and transport.

Experience the Marble Trail

The Marble Trail takes about two hours, leads through the Adnet marble quarries and is suitable even for inexperienced hikers. Information panels along the trail explain the rock’s special features and how it is quarried; the route also passes the quarry blacksmith museum. The Wandschützenhütte hut stands at the end of the Marble Trail. Guided tours along the trail can be arranged by prior registration. If a guided tour is important to you, check in advance whether one is available during your visit.

Two experiences, each lasting about two hours

The alpaca hike also lasts about two hours. It leads through Adnet’s natural surroundings and impressive marble quarries. The BBQ experience combines the hike with a barbecue featuring regional products. Unlike the Marble Trail, which focuses on the rock and its extraction, this experience pairs a hike with alpacas and regional food. The similar duration makes it particularly easy to see how the two experiences differ in focus.

Moorland, plant life and plateau

Adneter Moos is home to a wealth of different habitats. They provide the conditions necessary for the life and survival of more than a quarter of all plant species found in the state of Salzburg. Adnet Moor is protected and can be explored on foot. Adnet’s extensive plateau also invites you to hike and enjoy nature. These offer different nature experiences side by side: habitats and plants, a protected moor, and a landscape that invites you to hike.

Local history and choosing where to stay

Adnet’s history also includes its parish church, one of the oldest churches in the state of Salzburg. A landmark in the landscape, Schlenken, Adnet’s local mountain, stands at 1,648 m and is part of the Osterhorn mountain range. These two facts add further points of interest to the town’s marble and nature themes.

If you are looking for a hotel in Adnet, first consider what kind of stay you want: marble and its extraction, nature and hiking, or local history. The Marble Trail and the alpaca hike offer different experiences, each lasting about two hours; the moorland, moor and plateau provide further nature experiences. This lets you choose Adnet based on the interests you want to shape your trip.
