Rußbach Am Paß Gschütt combines a location amid the Dachstein massif with activities for children and a well-known fossil site. The village is in the Tennengau region of SalzburgerLand and on the edge of the Salzkammergut. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between activities and routes: one tour starts in Rußbach, another passes through the village; some access points require seasonal rail service. This lets you take both activities and travel dates into account.

Experiences between mountain views and activity stations

Bruno’s Mountain World offers children adventure and learning stations. From Bruno’s Mountain World near the Russbach Hornbahn, there are views of the Dachstein, the Gosaukamm and the Tennengebirge. Here, activities for children combine with views of named mountain ranges. Rußbach Adventure Park offers something different: a 14-meter-high climbing tower. If you are weighing up different interests, you can distinguish between these activities based on whether learning and adventure stations, the views or the climbing tower are your priority.

In the Ghost Forest, you will find fun forest marble runs; the ghost hunt includes ten different stations. This gives you a choice of two distinct activities within the Ghost Forest: playful marble runs or a ghost hunt with several stations. If you are deciding between these formats, you can find both here.

Fossils and places to visit in the village

The Schneckenwand is a well-known fossil site in Rußbach Am Paß Gschütt. The Russbach Fossil Museum is also among the visitor attractions in the village. A visit to the museum depends on the tourist office’s opening hours; check current visiting options in advance. This lets you consider the fossil site and a museum visit as different ways to explore your interest in fossils.

The Russbach Bible Garden is right next to the church in Russbach. The brine inhalation facility is freely accessible and can be used from May to October. Check the facility’s seasonal information before your trip to make sure the dates fit your visit.

Getting oriented with routes and transport

The Dachstein Circuit passes through Rußbach; the Hornspitzrunde panoramic tour starts in the village. This distinction helps with orientation: Rußbach is part of one route, while the other starts there. When comparing the tours, you can distinguish between a route that passes through the village and one that begins there.

From Rußbach, take the Russbach Hornbahn and then walk for one hour to reach the start of the Dachstein Circuit hiking trail on the Zwieselalm or the top station of the Gosaukammbahn. From the same lift, you can reach the Edtalmhütte either via a one-hour hiking trail or by taking the Ameisenexpress. The one-hour walking time applies to the hiking trail to the hut. As the lift and hut operating times depend on the season, check them before your tour.

The Postbus runs directly from Golling to Rußbach. If you plan to use this service, check the current timetable before traveling and factor it into your arrival plans.
