Tulln on the Danube offers several distinct themes for a stay: ecologically maintained show gardens, the aquatic landscape of the Water Park, Roman history and a seasonal program of stage events. When planning a trip, you can first decide whether nature and activity, historical insights or events should be the main focus. Specific highlights include a garden area with a treetop walkway, Roman walls and signposted garden cycling routes.
Show Gardens and Aquatic Landscape
DIE GARTEN TULLN presents 70 show gardens maintained entirely using ecological methods across seven hectares. A 30-meter-high treetop walkway offers views over the gardens and the Danube landscape. This places the landscaped gardens alongside a perspective of the surrounding landscape from above. The site also includes Lower Austria’s largest adventure and nature playground. The various attractions each have their own focus: gardens, views of the landscape, and an adventure and nature playground.
Following its revitalization, numerous animal species—especially waterfowl—returned to the Tulln Water Park. Boating lets visitors explore a network of interconnected waterways along about four kilometers of water routes beneath the canopy of the floodplain forest. The return of the waterfowl offers insight into the park’s ecological development; the boat trip follows its waterways. At Tulln Aubad, visitors can go stand-up paddleboarding and run on a route around the lake. The activities are clearly distinct: boating on interconnected waterways, as opposed to paddling and running by the lake.
Roman History and Stage Program
The Tulln Roman Museum presents Roman civilian and military history through comic animations, pewter-figure dioramas and life-size figurines. The exhibition thus uses a range of formats to bring Roman history to life. At the Roman Tower, by contrast, the focus is on the surviving structure: its Roman walls remain original up to the roofline. The tower is one of the few fully preserved ancient buildings north of the Alps and can be viewed from the outside. The museum and tower therefore offer different ways to explore the subject: an exhibition in the museum and a building visible from the outside.
The Tulln Danube Stage is the largest riverside stage on the Danube. From June to August, artists from the music, cabaret and comedy scenes perform there. This specific time period makes the stage program a seasonal highlight. As the dates may vary from year to year, check the program for your travel dates.
Plan Garden Cycling Tours
All three garden cycling tours start and end in Tulln at the guest harbor next to Nibelungenplatz. They are designed as circular routes, can be ridden in either direction and are signposted. Having a shared start and end point makes it easy to choose a tour; the direction of travel is up to you. Follow the current signs along the way.
