An easy walking route with a clear walking time, a cycle path west of the L 24 and a guided tour of the Schmidt organic farm reveal different sides of a stay in Neudorf im Weinviertel. Walk, Cycle Path and Farm Visit

Route 1 is classified as an easy walking route. Its distance, walking time and elevation gain provide different points of reference to help you fit the walk into your day’s plans. Trail conditions can change; check them before setting out. The cycle path offers a different way to get around: its approximate length and location west of the L 24 describe its scale and orientation.

A guided tour leads from the main square in Neudorf im Weinviertel to the Schmidt organic farm, situated on a hill on the edge of the village. The tour includes a visit to the farm and its fields. Topics include arable farming, grain varieties and how they are processed. The visit concludes with a tasting of products in the farm shop. The tour thus combines the journey to the farm with agricultural topics and a culinary highlight. If you would like to include a farm visit in your stay, check the booking details before you arrive.

Building History and Music in Kirchstetten

In Kirchstetten, cultural history ranges from medieval architectural elements to works of art from the 18th century. The Baroque Suttner Castle has foundations dating from the 16th century and was remodelled to plans by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. The building history of the Church of the Holy Spirit can be read in its different elements: the Romanesque nave dates from the 13th century; around 1400, a Gothic choir and Gothic tower were added. The high altar was created around 1700, and the associated Crucifixion group dates from the second decade of the 18th century. The organ by Ignaz Reinold was built in 1826.

Kirchstetten Castle becomes a cultural meeting place for music lovers from Austria and abroad every year. Its event is titled “Classical Music in Summer in the Weinviertel.” The ballroom houses Franz Anton Maulpertsch’s first documented work, “The Triumph of Truth over Time,” dating from 1750–52. If you would like to plan your stay around the event, check the specific dates.

Churches, Monument and Wayside Chapel

Neudorf parish church was built in 1724, and its tower was constructed in 1770. In 2001, the church received a new steeple designed in the Gothic style. On the main square, the Marian Column, erected in 1859, commemorates the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, proclaimed on 8 December 1854. The construction dates of the church and monument are accompanied by a distinct occasion for remembrance: the Marian Column and its religious dedication.

North of Kirchstetten, outside the village, stands the Rochus Chapel, a wayside chapel with a curved gable and a wooden statue of Saint Roch dating from around 1700. Countess Daun of Kirchstetten had it built in 1679 in gratitude for being saved from the plague. In Zlabern, the cellar lane lies in the northwest of the village, oriented towards the forest. These details offer a different perspective from the dated church buildings: at the chapel, the architectural style, statue and founding story come together, while the cellar lane’s location and orientation help visitors find their bearings.
