Oggau on Lake Neusiedl combines winegrowing with hiking trails, viewpoints and historic chapels. During your stay, you can choose from tastings with different formats, paths through the wine-growing landscape and opportunities to observe nature. Some activities are limited to certain days of the week or seasons; others make for a worthwhile trip outdoors.

Wine and Tastings

Oggau’s wine-growing area covers around 250 hectares. About half the area is planted with white grape varieties and the other half with red grape varieties. At the Oggau Municipal Wine Cellar, you can taste wines produced by the municipality itself.

From April to the end of September, Gut Oggau offers wine tastings at the estate on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.; no booking is required. Opening times are seasonal and may change, so check them before your visit. Gut Oggau’s Deep Tasting includes a tour of the winery and requires an appointment. As appointment arrangements may also change, it is best to check in advance.

At Weingut Rainprecht, you can ask to be accompanied on a walk of about two kilometres along the Oggau Panorama Wine Trail. At the winery’s wine tavern, cold delicacies are served with wine and grape juice, along with sourdough bread baked fresh daily in a wood-fired oven; spelt pretzel sticks are usually available too.

Trails and Views

The Oggau Wine Trail is 2.6 kilometres long and takes about 45 minutes to walk. Access conditions may vary, so check them before setting out. The trail features a viewing platform with unobstructed views of Oggau, the wine-growing region and Lake Neusiedl.

Oggau can also be included in a cycling trip: the Neusiedler See Cycle Path B10 passes directly through the village. The Oslip–Schützen–Oggau circular hiking trail also passes through Oggau and by the summit cross on Seeberg. At 211 metres, Seeberg is the highest point in Oggau’s municipal territory and is easy to hike.

Nature and Activities

Hölzelstein is a 2.7-hectare dry grassland area and a habitat protected under EU directives. It offers unobstructed views of Lake Neusiedl. On the nature trail, you can spot purple and great white egrets, greylag geese, gulls, lapwings, western marsh harriers and hoopoes. If you want to take in the landscape from somewhere other than the wine trails, this offers a different perspective on nature.

The fitness trail has six stations and is freely accessible in the meadow opposite the swimming pool, in the direction of the boat harbour. The seasonal swimming pool has a 25-metre pool with six lanes. As opening dates may change, check the current times if you are planning your swimming visit in advance.

A trip to Lake Neusiedl via the reed channel is considered a nature experience. Together with the trails through Oggau, this gives you various ways to experience the landscape on foot, by bike or on a trip to the lake.

Chapels in the Village

The history of the buildings can also be seen in two chapels: Rosalia Chapel was built in 1713, and Holy Cross Chapel around 1740. The dates mark two different periods of construction within a few decades and add a cultural accent to the nature and wine trails.
