Explore Elmore through its mix of riverside attractions, local history and recreational activities. The Campaspe River runs through the town along Jeffrey Street and Campaspe Street. There are also clearly distinct walking options, a historic avenue and places connected with the town’s history. When planning, it is worth distinguishing the loop walk, which has a stated duration, from a walking track with clearly named endpoints.

Walking trails and a historic avenue

The Campaspe River Pepper Tree Avenue runs along Campaspe Street between the Campaspe River Bridge and Childers Street. It was planted on 10 August 1898. Rustic seating among the pepper trees provides a place for a meal or quiet reflection. If you’re planning a meal break or a peaceful moment, this is a specific option.

The Campaspe River Walking Track runs from Campaspe Bridge, at the intersection of Margaret and Jeffrey Streets, to the corner of Campaspe and Childers Streets. By contrast, the short version of Explore Elmore is a loop walk: it is of moderate difficulty, 2.29 kilometres long and estimated to take about 34 minutes. The route passes 35 points of interest. This lets you choose between two different types of route description: fixed endpoints on the walking track, or a loop walk with a stated distance, estimated time and difficulty.

Elmore’s museum, railway station and local history

The EPA Museum preserves Elmore’s history, which dates back to around 1864, and is run by a team of dedicated volunteers. Another dated landmark is Elmore Railway Station: it opened in 1870 and was originally called Runnymede Railway Station. The two places offer different ways to connect with the town’s history—the museum provides a broader historical overview, while the railway station has a specific opening year and former name.

A visit to Elmore Cemetery also offers historical insights into the town and district. Along with the museum and railway station, it adds another perspective on local history to the walking options.

Equestrian events and more to discover

Elmore Equestrian Park can host equestrian events of all sizes and disciplines. Individual events and their availability vary. If you’re travelling to Elmore for a particular competition, plan around the specific event rather than relying on the park’s capacity alone.

Elmore Miniature Railway has a 1.5-kilometre track, with its station located in Apex Park. Check operating dates separately if you’re planning to include the railway in your visit. The platypus also lives in the Campaspe River at Elmore. A sighting is not guaranteed, even though the animal is part of this habitat.

Cardwell Street Natural Play Space and Picnic Area is at the corner of Cardwell and Jeffrey Streets, beside the Campaspe River. The nature play area includes fallen river red gum trees. As recreational facilities can change, it is advisable to check current conditions before your visit.
