Villa General Belgrano can be explored through a range of themes: architecture and local history, paths along the streams, and beer and festival culture. To help plan your stay, the town offers concrete alternatives—a themed tour, exploring on foot or by bicycle, and festivals whose dates mark different travel periods.

Architecture, Views and Paths

The themed tour Dorf Tour takes in Villa General Belgrano’s most important architectural sights and covers the town’s history and customs. If you would like to look beyond the town’s history, you can hike up Cerro de la Virgen. From there, you can enjoy panoramic views of Villa General Belgrano and the Valle de Calamuchita. The tour and the climb therefore offer two different focal points: a concentrated look at architecture and local history, or a view of the town and the Valle de Calamuchita.

Paseo de los Arroyos offers another way to explore the surroundings: on foot or by bicycle along the El Molle, El Sauce and La Toma streams, which flow through Villa General Belgrano. Unlike the climb to Cerro de la Virgen, the focus here is on the route along the three waterways. Depending on your interests, you can choose between a panoramic view and an exploration along the streams without treating the two experiences as the same.

Beer, Pastries and Festival Seasons

The Camino de la Cerveza includes visits to several craft breweries. Some of these breweries offer tours showing the production process, from raw ingredients to the finished beer. This makes it possible to discover the local beer culture not only through its festivals, but also through the brewing process. However, tours are offered by only some of the breweries on the Camino.

The Fiesta Nacional de la Cerveza has a longstanding historical connection to the town: Villa General Belgrano was designated its permanent venue by resolution in 1980. The festival takes place in October. The Fiesta Nacional de la Masa Vienesa takes place at a different time, during Holy Week, and is known for its handcrafted pastries and musical performances. If you would like to include one of these festivals in your plans, you can choose your travel dates accordingly: October for the beer festival, and Holy Week for the Viennese pastry festival.

The Fiesta Nacional del Chocolate Alpino adds musical performances and traditional dances to the festival culture.

Museums and the Regional Context

The museums focus on different subjects. Museo Oktoberfest presents the history of Villa General Belgrano’s most important festival. Museo Castillo Romano explores the development of machinery over time and features photo exhibitions about the town’s history. Museo Histórico La Capillita is a public-facing civil society organization. It seeks to preserve local identity and collective memory by safeguarding and sharing the historical, cultural and natural heritage. Festival history, technological development, local history and the interpretation of local heritage are thus presented as distinct themes.

The wider travel destination of Departamento Calamuchita includes other distinctive landscapes and towns. La Cumbrecita is a pedestrian village in the department. Cerro Champaquí is 2,790 meters high, the highest peak in Córdoba Province, and lies on the border between the departments of Calamuchita and San Javier. Embalse Río Tercero is also a regional landmark: it is the province’s largest artificial lake and covers 5,600 hectares. Fishing for pejerrey, swimming, motorboating, rowing, canoeing and scuba diving are all activities at Embalse de Calamuchita. These features broaden the picture of Departamento Calamuchita, while the paths, museums and breweries above highlight Villa General Belgrano’s own attractions.
