In summer, the clear water and sandy beaches of Alpa Corral attract visitors from all over Argentina. Riverside spots, nature trails and cultural events offer more ways to plan your trip.

Riverside Spots and Landscapes

At the swimming area on the Río Las Barrancas, a small dam creates a deep section for swimming, as well as shallower areas for children. El Talita is known for its natural swimming pools and lovely views. El Cajón is a place to cool off and pause. El Codito is a bend in the river with natural pools; La Olla is on the mountainside, where spring water cascades down toward the river. Cerro Blanco rises to 1,138 metres above sea level. Each spot has its own landscape features, from swimming areas and pools to a cascade on the mountainside.

Near Alpa Corral lies the mountain settlement of Unión de los Ríos. Its name refers to the confluence of the Moras and Talita rivers.

Nature Trails and Activities

The Los Pinares hiking trail begins at the Vado, passes through a pine forest and ends at the Río Talita. Birdwatching and photo safaris are mentioned along the route. Another route, 2,827 metres long, starts at the Centro de Informes, crosses the footbridge and passes the Mirador de Alpa Corral and El Cajón before reaching the Observatorio Panorámico la Villa. There is also a lookout point near the footbridge, with views of the swimming area and the river. A self-guided walk introduces visitors to the native plants of Alpa Corral.

Another route leads from Balneario Sauces Colorados along the rocky banks of the Río Barrancas to the Virgen de Lourdes, then follows the riverfront promenade to the Tres Marías, a three-tiered stream waterfall. Trekking or hiking shoes, a cap and insect repellent are recommended for this route. The trails differ in their stops: Los Pinares runs through the pine forest to the Río Talita, while the route to the Tres Marías follows riverbanks and passes a waterfall.

Activities in Alpa Corral include trekking, hiking, zip-lining, fly-fishing, birdwatching and photography; cycling and horseback riding are also mentioned. Several nature trails and circular routes add to the options. Check the current availability of activities before your trip and the condition of the trails before setting out.

The annual events calendar includes the Fiesta de las Comidas Artesanales in November, El Festival de Invierno in July and Carnaval del Humor y la Familia in summer.
