Vlorë brings together seascapes, protected lagoons and places with a layered history. Haxhi Ali Cave is also within the marine park. From Vlorë, it can only be reached by boat. For planning purposes, the key consideration is this special form of access: the cave is not a destination for a walk along the shore.
Narta Lagoon is a protected natural area and an important habitat for waterbirds and wildlife. Visitors can watch birds, take nature walks and take part in educational activities. In the west of the Bashkia Vlorë, next to the lagoon, Zvërnec Forest lies in a protected coastal landscape. Its nature trails are suitable for walking, picnicking and outdoor activities. A wooden bridge connects the island of Zvërnec Monastery to the mainland. The walk is considered suitable for ecotourism and nature photography. Vlorë’s historic centre is home to 13 first-category cultural monuments in buildings dating from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The National Museum of Independence is south of Vlorë, near the port. Established in 1936, it displays original objects, important documents and artworks from the period of the Albanian National Renaissance and independence. The Muradie Mosque, built in 1542 by Mimar Sinan, is considered an important example of Ottoman architecture.
Kaninë Castle also brings together several historical periods. The fortification, of Illyrian origin, was rebuilt in Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman times and is associated with Skanderbeg’s coronation as Prince of Albania in 1451. Visitors can explore the defensive walls and towers, as well as interior areas with archaeological remains. This offers a different perspective on history from the museum and buildings in the city centre.
Sazan is open to visitors and is part of Karaburun–Sazan Marine National Park. The island combines Mediterranean vegetation and beaches with the remains of a military base, tunnels and Cold War buildings. These traces also give the island a historical dimension.
