Nha Trang offers a range of ways to plan your stay: the city’s sandy beach lies along a bay with 19 islands and islets; there is also a sacred Cham site, a rock formation on the shore, and attractions related to the sea and handicrafts. If you’re looking for hotels in Nha Trang, you can first decide whether religious heritage, coastal activities, marine science, or handicrafts should be the focus of your trip. Each theme offers a different way to spend your time here.

Po Nagar Towers: History and Religious Practice

The Po Nagar Towers stand on Cù Lao Mountain in Nha Trang. The four surviving towers date from the 7th to the 12th century. They form a sacred Cham site where pilgrims continue to pray and burn incense. The historic architecture is thus connected with a religious practice that remains part of the site today.

The Tháp Bà Po Nagar Festival is also held at the Tháp Bà Po Nagar Monument Site in the city. It is celebrated every year from the 20th to the 23rd day of the third lunar month. Bóng dance and Hát Văn singing are part of the program throughout the festival, with performances held, among other places, on the stage in front of the mandapa. The lunar month determines the timing. The festival offers a distinct reason to discover the Po Nagar site not only through its architectural history, but also through its festival traditions.

Bay, Beach and Rock Formations

Nha Trang’s sandy beach lies along a striking bay with 19 islands and islets. Another coastal formation is Hòn Chồng, within Nha Trang: Hòn Chồng is on the shore, while Hòn Vợ is in the sea. Visitors can swim at the beach next to Hòn Chồng. Stand-up paddleboarding is available at Hòn Chồng Beach; conditions and providers may vary. This stretch of coast offers a rock formation and two different water activities, each providing a distinct experience.

Marine Science at the Museum of Oceanography

The Museum of Oceanography houses more than 20,000 marine specimens for scientific purposes, as well as for communication and education. Its aquarium keeps and breeds numerous marine species that represent typical ecosystems such as coral reefs and seagrass meadows. The collection and aquarium have different focuses: one features marine specimens, while the other presents species and the ecosystems they represent.

The museum also showcases marine resources from the Spratly and Paracel Islands. Through these exhibits, visitors can learn more about Vietnam’s territorial waters and marine resources. The museum thus complements the natural attractions of the beach and bay with a scientific and educational perspective on the sea.

Handicrafts, Markets and the History of Research

At Trường Sơn Handicraft Village, visitors can watch craftspeople at work on a range of activities: weaving mats, making conical hats and fishing nets, creating sand paintings and portraits, embroidering pictures, and making traditional musical instruments. The focus is on observing different craft techniques. Those more interested in everyday goods and souvenirs can find a different experience at the two-story Dam Market. As Nha Trang’s main market, it sells fresh food, household goods, clothing, and souvenirs.

The Yersin Museum was established in 1997 and is located on the grounds of the Pasteur Institute of Nha Trang at 10 Trần Phú Street. It displays historical items and scientific equipment from Yersin’s research. These include an old Leroy clock, books and newspapers, a Morse transmitting and receiving antenna, a computer, a globe, a telescope, and other distinctive laboratory instruments. The collection offers another way to explore the history of research in Nha Trang.

Getting There and Planning Your Trip

Nha Trang is accessible by plane, train, or bus; taxis are widely available within the city. Several spa-like facilities with mud baths and hot springs are another excursion option in the hills north of Nha Trang. If you plan to visit them, check their current availability in advance. Your priorities can help guide your choice of accommodation: Cham heritage and festival traditions, the beach and water activities, marine science, or handicrafts and markets.
