In Lê Chân, you will encounter the memory of the female general Lê Chân in various forms: Đền Nghè is dedicated to her, and Đình An Biên holds annual commemorations of important milestones in her life. There are also old communal houses, temples and a sports park whose facilities reveal another side of the district. If you are interested in history, you can view the monuments according to their respective focus: as a dedication, as preserved architecture or as a place of recurring remembrance.
Remembering General Lê Chân
Đền Nghè is located in what is now An Biên ward, Lê Chân District, and is a historical and cultural monument honoring the general. One striking feature is the large stone stele from the Nguyễn period: it bears Lê Chân’s biography and is among the valuable stone sculptures preserved at the monument. This connects the dedication with a tangible stone record and a biographical remembrance.
Đình An Biên also commemorates Lê Chân with annual events, including days of remembrance marking her birthday, victory and death. The dates follow the lunar calendar: the 8th day of the second month, the 15th day of the eighth month and the 13th day of the seventh month. The communal house is located at No. 50/170, Hai Bà Trưng Street, An Biên ward, Lê Chân District, Hải Phòng.
Another specific reference in time is the traditional Lê Chân Festival 2025: from March 6 to 8, events took place at Đền Nghè, Đình An Biên and the square with the general’s monument. For 2026, the program at Đền Nghè included a competition for Thủy Tiên flowers. The examples thus range from a multi-day festival held at several venues to a single flower-themed program item.
Communal Houses, Pagoda and Architecture
Đình Hàng Kênh was classified as a monument of national importance for its historical and architectural-artistic value in 1962. Its architectural and sculptural value is central to the significance of the building. The history of Đình Dư Hàng shows another aspect: the communal house is located in the former area of Dư Hàng Kênh, now part of Lê Chân District, and preserves the architecture and decorative art of an old Vietnamese village communal house from the 18th century and the late 19th century. These two places therefore highlight different aspects: the national classification and artistic value of Đình Hàng Kênh, and the traditional building and decorative forms of Đình Dư Hàng.
Chùa Dư Hàng, also called Phúc Lâm tự, is located in Hồ Nam ward. The monastery complex includes a seven-bay Buddha hall and a three-story bell tower. It also has a historical connection: during the Trần period (1225–1400), masters of the Trúc Lâm Zen school, associated with Trần Nhân Tông, had ties to the pagoda. Its architecture and heritage offer two distinct points of interest for your exploration.
Leisure and Exercise at Hồ Sen
Hồ Sen Sports Park offers a different focus from the historic buildings. It includes areas for culture, sports, leisure and recreation. Facilities include an artificial-turf football pitch, walking paths, outdoor fitness equipment, trees and lawns. In 2026, the sports park hosted a football tournament for young people and children in Lê Chân. Thus, as well as monuments, spaces for exercise and leisure are among the features that make up the district.
