Đình Trân Châu preserves six imperial edicts from 1845, 1853, 1854, 1880, 1887 and 1909. Together with the Suối Thuồng Luồng, which flows year-round, they offer a first glimpse of the area's different sides. Cultural History at Đình Trân Châu

Đình Trân Châu is classified as a municipal historical resistance monument. This designation is based on Decision No. 1317-QĐ/UB of 25 August 2011. According to local historical accounts, the đình was first built around the 18th century, during the late Lê dynasty. Its history can be viewed across several periods: from its traditional founding to the six edicts from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and finally its later designation as a monument.

The traditional festival at the đình usually takes place over three days each year, from the first to the third day of the second lunar month. At the Thành hoàng ceremony on 21 March 2026, incense and offerings were presented and a festival prayer was read, in keeping with tradition. If the festival is important to your trip, check the date for your chosen year, as its usual timing follows the lunar calendar.

Stream, Spring Pools and Limestone Cave

In Trân Châu, the Suối Thuồng Luồng rises from a mountain cave, flows year-round and carries a relatively large volume of water. Along its course to the sea, it forms natural spring pools. These features give the stream a distinctive landscape: it links its cave source with water that continues all the way to the coast.

Another striking landform is Động Minh Châu. The cave formed in limestone and has two connected entrances that pass through the mountain. It is almost 100 m long and 5 m wide at its widest point. The two measurements describe different aspects: the length indicates its extent, while the width specifically refers to the greatest measured value. Bến: Architecture and Remembrance

In the Bến neighborhood stands Ngôi nhà 102, whose shape is modeled on a hollowed-out pine trunk. It features carved details both inside and out. The built-up area is 200 m², and the plot covers 500 m². The house is officially recognized as a tourist attraction. Its form, carvings and area measurements offer concrete points of reference for understanding its architecture.

Also in Bến, Đền Quan Đội stands beside a sea bay. Built in 2011, the temple honors five generals from the Nguyễn period whom Emperor Tự Đức sent to fight pirates. The two sites have different points of focus: Ngôi nhà 102 is notable for its architectural form and design, while the temple commemorates the five generals and their historical mission.

Local Cuisine, Climbing and Storytelling Traditions

Gà Liên Minh is a long-established chicken breed raised in the hamlet of Liên Minh in Trân Châu commune. The chickens are raised using natural methods. In one described preparation, the meat is grilled over charcoal and brushed with Cát Bà forest honey shortly before it is done. Forest honey is also one of Trân Châu's local specialties. It is therefore not only enjoyed on its own, but also features in this way of preparing the dish.

In Liên Minh, Butterfly Valley is a good place for adventurous climbing. There is also a cultural dimension: Trân Châu is known as the “Village of Laughter” and has a tradition of humorous folk storytelling. The range of travel experiences thus extends from a specific outdoor activity to local storytelling culture.

Getting Your Bearings for the Journey

A coastal route of about 5 km leads from the center of Cát Bà to Trân Châu. Route 356, which is 31 km long, is a separate point of reference: it opened on 31 March 2002, runs through Phù Long, Hiền Hào, Xuân Đám and Trân Châu, and ends at the Áng Sỏi junction in Cát Bà town. The approximately 5 km refers to the coastal route from the town center; the 31 km refers to the length of Route 356.
