Redmond has 59 miles of public trails; 39 miles of them belong to and are operated by the city. When planning a stay, you can choose from specific loops, parks, cultural offerings and events.
Loops and a Regional Trail Corridor
Two loops can be compared by their length and route. The Education Hill School Tour Loop is 3 miles long and passes through the schools in Education Hill. The Downtown Park Tour Loop is 2.7 miles long and passes through five parks. Both are loop routes, with a length difference of 0.3 miles. Their route destinations also differ: one loop passes through Education Hill, while the other follows a series of parks.
A larger connection is the Redmond Central Connector. This 3.9-mile trail corridor connects Sammamish, Redmond and Kirkland, linking Redmond Town Center, historic Downtown, the Grass Lawn neighborhood and the Willows business district. The first two construction phases are complete and include a 2.3-mile regional trail. For the Connector, both the corridor’s total length and the extent of the completed phases provide useful points of reference.
Parks, from Animals and Water to Culture
Farrel-McWhirter Park has a children’s farm with animals and an orienteering course. These offer different reasons to visit the park: the farm brings animals into the experience, while the course focuses on navigation.
Idylwood Beach Park has a swimming beach on Lake Sammamish. Check swimming conditions before your visit. The Downtown Park offers cultural arts programs; offerings may change over time. The park also has a splash pad, whose seasonal hours of operation may vary.
History, Events and Cycling
Anderson Park was added to the Washington Heritage Register in 2008 and the National Register of Historic Places in 2009. Redmond Lights is a celebration of light, art and culture in the Downtown Park. Derby Days is a summer festival held every summer on the municipal campus. If you want one of these events to shape your stay, check the dates for your travel dates.
Marymoor Park offers other clearly defined attractions. It is home to the only velodrome in Washington State, a 400-meter track for cycling. The park also includes a 40-acre off-leash dog area. The concert venue in the Willowmoor Farm Historical District has a capacity of 5,000 people; its program varies by season.
Light Rail and Finding Accommodation
Redmond has four light rail stations that provide access to the neighborhoods of Overlake Village, Marymoor Village and Downtown Redmond, as well as Redmond Technology Station near the Microsoft campus. Since light rail service may change, check the current schedule for your travel dates.
If you’re looking for a hotel in Redmond, you can start planning your accommodation around the visits you have in mind, such as a loop, a park or an event date. Factor light rail in as a separate planning consideration, and check schedules and event dates before setting your itinerary.
