Snow Canyon State Park borders Ivins directly to the north. At the same time, stages, art programs and markets shape the town’s cultural offerings. If you’re looking for a hotel in Ivins, you can plan your trip around these varied highlights: the park’s landscape, performances or an art event.

Park Landscapes and Nature Experiences

Snow Canyon State Park covers 7,400 acres and lies amid lava flows and towering sandstone cliffs. To help plan hikes, the park’s trail guides provide route descriptions, safety advice, information about notable features and the rules currently in effect. The adjacent park is also crossed by the 18-mile paved Snow Canyon Paved Loop. The route is shared by cyclists, hikers, joggers and inline skaters; check the park’s information before your visit for current route conditions and shared-use details.

The time of day also matters if you’re hoping to see wildlife: coyotes, kit foxes, quail and roadrunners forage in Snow Canyon at dawn and dusk. Sightings are seasonal and not guaranteed. The loop, by contrast, has a clearly specified length and is shared by different users. These offer two distinct nature experiences: a paved route and the possibility—but not the certainty—of wildlife sightings.

Fire Lake Park covers just over 9 acres. The city’s plans for Fire Lake Park at Ivins Reservoir call for a water recreation area and a nature park. The planned preservation is intended to take waterfowl, other wildlife and neighboring property owners into account. This gives the area a different focus from Snow Canyon’s lava and sandstone landscape: here, the emphasis is on water recreation and consideration for nature and the neighborhood.

Stages and Performances

Tuacahn Amphitheatre has 2,500 seats, while its attached theater has 425. The two venues host Broadway musicals, concerts and other events. The amphitheatre also presents open-air concerts featuring every style of music. The Center for the Arts at Kayenta offers a theater with more than 200 seats and a different artistic range: its performing arts include contemporary dance, plays and films.

The Center for the Arts at Kayenta produces and presents more than 50 events each year, with around 120 individual performances. The program includes theater, music, dance, storytelling and humanities lectures. Its address is 881 Coyote Gulch Court in Ivins. The different stages offer several cultural themes to consider when planning your trip, from musicals and concerts to dance, film and lectures. Check the schedule for a specific date.

Art, Festivals and Markets

The Center for the Arts at Kayenta hosts three outdoor art festivals each year: the Street Painting Festival, Art in Kayenta in the fall and the Kayenta Native Arts Market in the spring. Art In Kayenta is a free festival at Kayenta Art Village in Ivins. More than 50 juried regional and national artists present work there in fields including painting, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, wood and metal. Dates, participating artists and mediums may change from one festival year to the next, so check the latest information before your trip.

The Tuacahn Saturday Market takes place year-round every Saturday, weather permitting. It features local artwork, crafts and food, along with free entertainment. Since the market is weather-dependent and operating details should be checked again before your trip, consult the latest information if you’re planning your stay around it.

Art in Ivins can also be found outside of festivals. The ongoing It’s a Wrap program adds artist-designed vinyl wraps to selected utility boxes around the city; individual installations may change. Art on Loan displays local artwork in public places around the community each year, though exhibition details may vary. The Kayenta Arts District also includes the Desert Rose Labyrinth and Sculpture Garden, Kayenta Art Village and the Center for the Arts at Kayenta. The Whitaker Wind Sculptures are a permanent art installation in Ivins’ Unity District.
