Water and Trails in Lakeway
City Park is waterfront parkland at 502 Hurst Creek Road. It is accessible by water via Hurst Creek Cove on Lake Travis. Swimming, fishing, and kayaking are among the popular water activities there.
Canyonlands is a 20-acre site on Rough Hollow Cove, a large inlet of Lake Travis. Hiking and mountain biking are permitted there. The trailhead is on the west side of Trophy Drive, opposite Swim Center Park. Parking is available along Trophy Drive and at Swim Center Park. City Park focuses on water activities, while Canyonlands offers trails for hiking and mountain biking.
Hamilton Greenbelt offers several miles of trails along Hurst Creek and Yaupon Creek. Its two main entrances, with parking, are on Lohmans Crossing Road and Palos Verdes Drive. Smith Greenbelt, by contrast, offers a short hiking trail along Hurst Creek. If trail length matters to your choice, Hamilton Greenbelt’s several miles of trails offer a contrast with the short trail at Smith Greenbelt.
Access to the Lakeway Boulevard Hike and Bike Trail is at the intersection of Lakeway Boulevard and Lakeway Drive. The trail changes from a sidewalk to a decomposed granite path. It is suitable for cycling, jogging, and walking dogs; motorized vehicles are not allowed. The trail descriptions therefore differ in length, surface, and permitted activities.
Heritage Center and Culture
Heritage Park is home to the Heritage Center. Documents, photographs, and small mementos collected since Lakeway was founded are archived there. Visitors can also view recordings of oral histories, special events, and other locally recorded activities that have been archived since Lakeway’s early years. The Center brings together collection items and documents with recordings of local events.
Heritage Center events include free bus tours held annually. If you would like to plan a tour, check the dates of upcoming events. Lakeway Activity Center offers workshops and classes for adults and is also used for community theater and concerts.
Parks and Public Art
Five swirling bronze dolphin sculptures were installed at the entrance to Porpoise Park in 2025 as part of the city’s permanent art collection. The park also has a playground and a decomposed granite path. Dragon Park offers two play structures, swings, a basketball court, a volleyball area, picnic tables, grills, restrooms, and a small athletic field.
Schramm Ranch Preserve: Habitat for the Golden-cheeked Warbler
