The Guadalupe River offers different perspectives in Seguin: a scenic loop for paddlers and fishing opportunities at Starcke Park. Historic buildings, museums, theaters, and Tejano culture add a strong cultural heritage dimension to the city.

Guadalupe River: Paddling, Fishing, and River Landscapes

The Guadalupe River flows slowly between Starcke Park and State Highway 46. Cypress, pecan, green ash, and sycamore trees shade this stretch of the river. Max Starcke Park is a 227-acre park on the Guadalupe River, making it another distinctive landmark in Seguin’s river landscape.

The Seguin Paddling Trail is a scenic, 4-mile loop on the Guadalupe River. It is suitable for beginners and does not require a shuttle. This manageable length sets it apart from a trip that would require a shuttle. Check river conditions before setting out.

Fishing is also possible along the Guadalupe River at Starcke Park. Fish species found there include catfish, sunfish, and largemouth and Guadalupe bass. Conditions and regulations may vary; check the rules in effect before fishing.

Historic Buildings and Museum

Sebastopol House is a Greek Revival mansion built in 1856. Enslaved craftspeople built the structure, which is among the notable surviving 19th-century limecrete buildings. Its construction date, architecture, and building history offer several historical perspectives that cannot be reduced to a single architectural style.

Heritage Village includes five of Seguin’s earliest buildings: Los Nogales, the Dietz Doll House, the oldest Protestant church in Texas, the Campbell-Hoerman Log Cabin, and the Calaboose. The variety of buildings is what makes this historic ensemble distinctive. The Heritage Museum, by contrast, focuses on the multicultural heritage and contributions of Seguin and Guadalupe County over the centuries. Exhibits and materials include artifacts from Indigenous communities and historical photographs.

Performing Arts and Tejano Heritage

The renovated historic Texas Theatre has a 250-seat main stage. Its program includes live music, plays, musicals, holiday shows, and youth productions; specific dates and events may change. The Palace Theatre is another historic theater in Seguin. Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin encompasses performing, visual, culinary, literary, and traditional arts: the organization is dedicated to preserving, teaching, and celebrating Mexican American and Tejano heritage.

Cycling, Wine, and a Local Event

Park West offers a BMX pump track and an off-road trail for BMX and mountain bike riders at beginner to intermediate levels. For those interested in cycling, it offers a different kind of activity from being on the water: the designated trail is suited to people with different levels of experience in this area.

Blue Lotus Winery & Texas Mead Works makes wine from 100 percent Texas-grown grapes, grown on its own property as well as sourced from West Texas. The tasting room in the vineyards gives guests the chance to sample Texas wines. Check operating details before your trip.

Pecan Fest is a recurring event celebrating Seguin’s deep-rooted history with pecans. Dates and programming change each year. If the festival is a reason for your trip, check the event dates in advance.
